There are home-made rehydration formulas (salt, sugar and water basically) they like, or you can go the meal/fluid route with Ensure. Mine love it and once you offer it to them will gladly lick it up or swallow it if you put it in the side of their mouths.
After 3 days I would think the steroid is a moot point, just keep up with the abs.
Amazing how our second vet thinks a week's wait on abs is good. I can hardly wait to consult our rat specialist tomorrow morning.
We just got the evening ab into him the regular way. Then some Gator Aide went down real nice. I have read where that is a good liquid. We're going to keep pushing liquids of various sorts every half hour or so.
Also, not knowing how these things spread, or how poor little Mac got it in the first place, we're washing hands between rat handlings---and keeping Mac in his own cage all the time. Kind of sad though. He might really like snuggling with the other 5.
