Thank you all for the replies, will let you know after the vet visit tonight. She took her pain meds which is the main thing.

Just got back from the vet. She thinks the black is dead tissue. She said that it is quite deep and it would be risky to operate and it is close to the ear... however, she personally says go for surgery - but we don't know if we are sure operating is a good idea. Not if a zymbals gland tumour.

She doesn't know. Says it might be a tumour in the ear canal aka ZGT. But she still says surgery.

I know my vet would not operate on this kind of tumor.

That is what we were thinking. We really like our vets but she's no expert with rats, she has learnt alont since seeing us I think. I'm not sure she knows just how serious a tumour this is... a nasty one.

I'm HOPING it's just an abcsess.... last night went to give her the meds and noticed a hole. Looked clean, no discharge.
The scab is off (see last lot of pics) and it's closed up a bit today. I can't *see* a tumour under it so fingers crossed :stickpoke:
