After I got home from work I took Paya out on my bed, and a little while later she started making some really loud, scary noises.

I took a video, you can hear pretty well, though you might have to turn your volume up:

She finished a six week course of Doxy for minor resp symptoms sometime last week, but she NEVER made sounds like that.
She didn't appear to be in respiratory distress, and the noises stopped a few minutes later.

I have access to antibiotics of various kinds through my Local Rat Person, but this seems like a vet thing?

She has nasal congestion. You could wait and see if it clears up in a day or two...but if it doesn't, then I'd get her to a vet. Doxy is not good enough for any URI so be sure to ask for Baytril next time around.

Sometimes one of my girls will make that kind of noise, but then it stops after a day. I noticed it happened twice after I cleaned the cage, so I figure it was just irritation.

My heart rat Willard had what it seemed chronic on and off nasal congestion.. it always made me panic lol. He'd have a stuffy nose for a few days.. then it would leave for weeks and come back for a few days and so on LOL but he never did end up getting sick thankfully lol he was a tough cookie only time he ever got sick was shortly after he was born and that was a bad one 0_0 Just keep an eye.. if it doesnt leave take him in, My milly had the stuffies for a few days and the vet concluded she was sick..we cant always hear whats going on inside them without tools lol

Toby sounds just like this but meds make him worse ..he has been like this for a year now.
