Basically that facial distortion was the deciding factor. It was hard like bone, and very likely was bone. We talked about possible scenarios like remove the eye, but we didn't think that would help, or put her on a differnt antibiotic and much stronger pain meds...but her eye was already drying out. We are thinking that the infection went into the bone, or it was a cancer, Osteomyelitis being my new word to look up. We realized that it was a poor prognosis for her, she was already in a lot of pain even on higher doses of metacam (she gave kisses to my vet at the same time of pushing her away from her face), and I would have to get up at 5:30 am every morning to see if she needed to go back to the vet that day (I have to be out the door by 7:30 am to make it to the vets and then to work on time).

We decided the best thing for active, and lovely little Lia was to let her go before it got really bad. :sad-p:

It was the best thing for her.
My mom had a rat with facial abscesses that had completely eaten the bone and replaced with hard abscess/infection which then began to distort the face.
It's very painful too.
