I think it's almost that time for him :(

G'Kar has CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) and has been medicated for it with Lasix and a ACE inhibitor(?) for the last 4 months, recently it stopped working. G'Kar has lost oh so much weight, so we have upped his dose from every 12h to every 8h with the lasix. It's still not working. Tonight, he is gasping for air. With the up coming storm we are expecting over night, I doubt we will be able to make it to a vet tomorrow, just to add insult to injury.

Please keep him in your thoughts, that should he need to cross the bridge and we cannot get him in, that it be quick and painless for him. But please hope that he pulls through tonight regardless, so we can make a better choice tomorrow as to keep him on meds and hopefully get the fluid down, or that we are able to take him in for his final trip should the weather hold off :(

My heart is breaking, it's always the good who die young. G'Kar will be 1 this month and personally, he's the sweetest rat who would do no harm to anyone. Lenir and Londo will be lost without their brother/son :(

G'Kar in his happier days, such a beautiful boy. Taken shortly after we adopted him from MRRG.

G'Kar now, you would never guess he was the same boy :(

The fluid seems to be building up faster than the lasix can clear it, so I gave him it ever 6 hours last night and he's breathing normally today, Im calling my vet tomorrow to see if it will be safe to move the doses closer together. Rough night but we're still here! G'Kar enjoyed some toast soaked in beef noddle soup this morning. So much that his brother/dad couldnt have any haha

Awww, it's rough when they're so sick at a time in their life when they should be at their prime. I'm glad he's breathing normally right now. You'll have a balancing act to do to make sure he doesn't get dehydrated with too much Lasix...

Thankfully, he's at the water bottle every 20mins or so, and there is lots of fruit mush/water in the cage for him to snack on. I have also offered him low sodium beef broth for some extra fluids and protein. Even if we can push it off until we can get to a vet with him right? Its a blizzard out there lol

This is a great example as to why I need to have my rats in my living room right beside my TV, that way they are always being watch :)

Oh yeah, you're in CB! Well, I don't think you'll be getting to the vet tomorrow either if we get what we're supposed to...glad to hear things are OK for now.
