Thanks for everyone in chat who tried to help me last night. I was driving on the freeway so I couldn't even hold him when he went.

:sad3: This sucks so darn much.

oh sweetie... what happened???? :sad3:

Oh no : ( I'm so sorry to hear that! Sometimes there is just nothing we can do and it is just their time. I hope oyu find peace in the fact that you did everything possible to help him and that you were there with him when he passed. I'm sure he is so gratefully and now he is playing at the rainbow bridge waiting for you. It's never good bye, just see you later. <3

RIP sweet little Odin.

I came home last night to find poor Odin unresponsive and cool to the touch. I thought he had a resp. flareup because his breathing was labored so I gave him some baytril. But on closer examination, there was something seriously wrong with his hind legs, so maybe he had a bad fall ... but he's in a single level CN. Also, I think victoria mentioned the possibly of a severe UTI. Couldn't tell if the breathing weird was resp, pain, or shock.

No "exotic" vets open by the time I got home, and all emergency ones have no experience with rodents. I stayed up with him most of the night, trying to get him interested in water, food, Ensure, cranberry juice ... I had him in the "sick cage" on top of a heater pad to keep him warm.

In the morning, I put him the in car and started speeding to the vet. I was almost there when I saw him spasm and he was just gone.

I can't believe it. He was less than a year old.

I am so very sorry. Sometimes these things happen, they happen to rats, to other animals, and to people as well. No rhyme or reason to it.

it sure does suck though

You did everything you could for him and he knows that. :hugs:
