Poor Inca, my 3-legged dynamo is older at 26 months, has little slow-growing tumours sprouting everywhere (thank god for her spay!) and now has what I think is an allergic reaction.

I noticed awhile back that Inca had bare pink patches developing on her nose. Recently its gotten really bad, and you can see the pattern now, almost like wherever bedding touches her body regularly. I am thinking contact allergies. If it was a systemic allergy she would have these issues all over right?

The fur is patchy but the skin where its patchy is bright pink. There's no heat, no scabs, no buggies. It doesn't seem to itch or hurt her. Unepuce/Nancy sent me some of her old vetbed that was used a long time ago for her guineapigs. We decided that even if it couldn't be used for my sensitive nakies it would be awesome in carriers and to put Rhesus on. Well I have 1 piece left that is almost the right size for an FN pan but a bit short. I have a spare smaller piece that I can use to make up for it from Norby's cage (he has 4 sets, not just 2 like the other nakies) that would fit perfectly. Vetbed is hypoallergenic so it will be a real test.

She was on fleece before and after her surgeries...then I put her on aspen...then she went back on fleece for awhile in December 2011 when she joined the oldies...then back to aspen for the oldies (too many HED boys making a mess)...it really does seem like the trigger.

That is strange. My vet told me that in ferrets, hair loss is due to adrenal gland issues.
Does she look uncomfortable? Have you tried Benedryl?

She doesn't act uncomfy at all, lets me poke at it and rub over it with no issue...no frantic licking saying its itchy either. I think my Benadryl is expired.

Benedryl would be good only if she seems uncomfortable. From looking at it, it seems painful. It's good that she's not reacting to it at all.

it looks wretched...I know. Jenny is bringing me some Benedryl when I see her tomorrow night, and I'll see if it helps. I'll change her over to the Vetbed tonight as well...see if there's any changes.

I need to go back through my pics and see when and how long she was on aspen etc.

Inca is a mad licker when her sides, shoulders, back and ears are rubbed or scratched...she really tells me when she's itchy...she's not showing any signs of itchiness or tenderness over her bare patches. Her skin has always been pinker than normal to me. She's a siamese if that makes any difference?

So that's probably her natural skin pigment. So right now, it's probably just hair loss and not skin irritation?

Could be. I am still putting her on vet bed just in case...I found someo0ne had trundled mouthfuls of aspen and coated the bottom fo the cozy boat with it...sigh :/ So they lost their Boat until its washed LOL

She's been on the vetbed for almost a month with no change at all. Thursday she goes in to see Dr Munn on the off-chance we can do something. She will probably get a skin scrape (poor lovey).

"I AM being a good girl"...she was licking me prior to this to convince me to let her up LOL

and here you can see the bottom of her muzzle and around her forelegs/chest.

Still not itchy or acting sore. I have to rub her ears regularly (the one without a corresponding hind leg) so she gets rubs/pats and scratches and still no extre itchy response or pained at all.

Maybe it's hair loss and not a skin issue. I think that one of the diseases with steriods causes hair loss - Cushings? It can be caused by an adrenal tumour or pituitary tumour.

She's curable!! But she won't like it :p

Dr. Munn did a skin scraping and she has demodex mites. its not particularly itchy but causes this strange hair loss. I will have to give her 3 more weekly injections of ivermectin to cure it. Revolution does not work on it at all. Yay!! Not a common one in rats of course. :cheeky:
