He's taken a turn for the worst tonight, he's agitated and running around. He can't breathe and the nebulizer isn't working :( I'm so torn up, heartbroken :(

If he lasts the night and we can get him in tomorrow, I am taking him in for the last trip :(

My Stew Stew :cry4:

Update: He's somewhat stable. We dosed him with 0.05cc of Lasix to try and remove fluids from his lungs. I also gave him 1cc of advil to try and reduce swelling. If Maple wasn't online Stewart would be dead right now. He has regained color, still sounds horrid but he's getting some oxygen at least.

Update: Sunday afternoon and we are still hanging on. He gets flair ups where he cannot breathe, which we follow with 10min saline and 10mins saline/steroid that allows him to breathe again. He's not getting better but he's staying above the line. Sadly, he's starting to loose a little weight. Its up and down right now. mostly night time is the worst for him... uploaded a video of our boy giving kisses. We're going to start offering the nebulizer 4 times a day, not twice or if he needs it. It seems to help. Cannot WAIT for the doxy to get here!!

Update 12/21/10:
Well the first night Stewart was a 9/10 (10 being death). Tonight I am happy to report that I would give him a 6/10. The lasix/advil/baytril have been helping him so much the last 2 days, I havent had to give him the nebulizer. He still sounds like a URI, but he's squeaking, but not gasping or loud. Before you could hear him across the apartment, today you need to lean into the cage and get his attention before you can hear sounds from him. He's cleaning, eating, drinking and quite active. No more lounging around or hanging from shelves/putting his head up to breathe. We are back to the beginning when we first brought him in for URI which is a HUGE improvement. Doxy came in today with the help of RattyMomma and Lilspaz, boys are getting their doses.

I am now seeing why I was hesitant to bring him in to be PTS Monday, he's taken a total change since Sunday night, getting better every day since the lasix is removing fluid from his lungs.

Keep sending those prayers!! OH and guess what I found in the bathroom today?? The fiances puffer, I could flippin shoot him right now. So, I hid it on him :) He can suffer like Stewart did next time he has a fit and can't breathe :) Yes, I am that cruel.

Yes, hubby is gone to work and I'm alone for the first time since May :( I keep trying to think of things I can do to stop this and I know I can't. I feel like the worst Mom ever cause I can't do anything but watch him struggle :( He's soaked from my tears. I'm not going to bed tonight, I can't leave him.

He's still the same as this morning, having issues but not in distress. I am torn on what to do for him.

Did you take him to the vet?

He's already been the other day for this issue, the only option we had was antibiotics or euth. If I went in today it would be the same option plus another $100 bill. That's why I am saying I am torn on what to do, if I take him in it would be for euthanasia, but I am unsure I want to give up, but in a sense I cannot stand torturing him. He is staying calm now, lounging in his favorite hammock. He's not as loud as he was last night and he's breathing fine. I think the Diuretic/Ibprofin is allowing him to breathe and circulate oxygen. I will have doxy shortly. Right now with Christmas, I'm flat broke along with everyone around me. So sadly I can afford one trip... if he needs to go in for a final trip I would rather that than another exam taking the money :(

Have you tried him on other antibiotics or on heart meds?

I am giving him Lasix right now, and the only other antibiotic I have available is the doxy, which will be here Tuesday. My vet ordered some in that wont be in until Monday, RattyMomma was nice enough to send doxy by mail. Other than that, I have nothing unless I go back to the vet for more baytril or more lasix. Stewarts already been there for this issue and my vet is of the impression that there is no hope for him. Either meds or euth. I am hoping to see if he will hold on until doxy gets here, if not then I will take him in monday or tuesday for euth.

Do you know anyone who has asthma and uses an inhaler? That might help him.

I have been using the nebulizer and a liquid form of ventolin adjusted to his weight and saline combo, its helping but not for long. It cannot be used more than 4 times a day, which so far is just enough for him.

I know lots who have asthma but none have inhalers they can spare. Monday I am going to pick up a ventolin puffer from the pharmacy, if my vet will call it in without be having to go in for a check up.

Sadly, this time of year is brutal for us with one income and Christmas. Any other time of the year is fine, but right now I have spent half my rent on the boys vets costs this week alone, thankfully my landlord is allowing my fiance to work it off at his business. But if this continues, I may end up with no insurance or home... so hopefully people can see my fear here. I will do everything I can for my boys, but I have 2 small babies to think of too. I am between a rock and a hard place.

You can try nebulizing with just saline, it may help to clear out his lungs. I read in another thread recently about using probiotics to try to crowd out harmful bacteria. (Leave at least 2 hours between probiotics and antibiotics.) I started making more of an effort to give them everyday (I'm batting about 2 for 3) and in conjunction with some tweaking in antibiotics, it's the first time in I don't know how long that I don't have somebody in my cage wheezing.
