Ever since I've gotten my two new rats, I've been feeling overwhelmed. I haven't had a lot of time to take my babies out and cleaning has become stressful. I've asked my mom if we could make our third bathroom a rat room so they can run around and have fun but she said no because we rent the house. I really love them and I don't think I can give them a better home, I've used over $500 for them and my mom would probably get mad at me for wanting to give them a better home too. The rats are friendly but I also notice that they don't trust me very well although they came from a breeder. Does anybody have any suggestions? I want them to live a better life with me

You gotta spend the time with them. It's really that simple. You can't just cage them and see them for half hour a day. They MUST be part of your family, interacting, shoulder riding, and spending time. It's the only way they'll be cuddly and friendly.

When I eat a late night bowl of cereal, I share it with my girls. When I'm doing chores, I allow my girls to shoulder ride and let them 'help.' When I take out the garbage, I take whatever rat wants to go and help. I do have things I have to get done but I MAKE it a point to incorporate my rats. If I'm washing clothing, I take them.

They will thank you for it with an unbreakable bond. There's nothing more beautiful than rats who are incorporated into a human familly, doing everything with them and having fun.
