I currently have a savic royal cage for my 2 pet rats. Its huge. I clean it top to bottom every 6-7 days. Which includes removing the 2 trays and platforms, washing and wiping them with pet safe disinfectant for small animals. I remove the hammocks and rope ladder and laundry them. I dont take out the 2 wooden perches or 2 small wooden platforms but i wipe them down. And replace the hammock and rope bridge with fresh ones.. I wipe the bars of the cage down outside and inside best i can. Every two days i spot clean by removing the poopies and quickly wiping the 2 shelves down and wooden shelves. I also place some of the poops in the litter tray as im litter training, to no avail yet. I also deep clean bottles and bowls once a week. Am i doing enough?
I have also changed my bedding from back to nature pellets to finacard. I have tried to freeze some of it as best i can in the freezer. Other bag wont fit. But i do have johnsons small animal, safe for pets cage And Hutch Spray 250ml Aerosol. You spray it in the bottom of the cage, when the pets are removed. And let it air and dry. It prevents lice, mites from breading in the bedding. I also once in a while treat the wooden toys to this. Also my rats are treated with imervectin every few months or so for precautions. I treat them for a month, then leave a month and go from their. They also get fresh veggies every 2 times a week. There were recent issues with one of my rats being scratchy but after the vet she took a sample from my babies skin and said it was only skin secretions. Aka buck grease. He also just in case had a treatment of selamectin. He had no mites or lice, but if i was worried i should treat him just in case. So now i know his scratching could just be him and behavorial, not something sinister. No scabs, or bald spots.
