How much do you pay for your Zithro?

I just bought the 300 mg box for Spike and it was $34.04 CDN with tax for the genuine Pfizer product. The trick is to convince the pharmacist NOT to reconstitute it, when your vet sends in the Rx or writes it you can ask them to put a note about it. For the one I bought, I mix 1 tsp of the powder with 1 ml of water and the potency is then 40 mg/ml - double the potency of the children's dose. By doing that I can just give a tiny .1 ml dose to a rat, or inject a zithromax "jelly" layer in the peanut butter sandwiches. Moe particularly likes his with clavaseptin crunchies. :)

This way that $34 box will last a full treatment of 14 days at twice daily dosing and another 14 days of single daily dosing with some to spare. You really have to be tricky keeping your rats healthy!

That is what we use but we pay more than that for it.
If you mix it up yourself, you can mix up half at a time so it will l.ast longer

they told me it was $39.99 for the Pfizer Zithro which confused me since I paid $48.90 for it last year at the same place.

But here's the Pharmascience box...there's a monkey under the label and cherries. The rats are drinking it like its a treat. :)

Some people have been asking if it is stronger then this or that. With microorganisms it is a matter of what they are suseptible to. Some become resistant to one or another abx. So stronger can mean "more broad range" dealing with more bugs then another abx but the fact is that the most broad range med may not work with the specific bug your rat has.

For Spike, he'd been through a trial of Baytril and Doxy as well as Clavaseptin. Then it was Zithro which we didn't combine with Baytril because with his aminophylline it can lead to toxic build up. He's now on injectible Gentocin and doing great. I saw some porphyrin on his nose and added Doxy to the mix in case of secondary infections. But it took trying all those meds to get to one that worked.

It is all a balance of what will work with the bug your rat has with the least side effects to the rat.
