In humans drinking Cranberry juice is pretty standard during a UTI, but I'm not sure how much a rat would like drinking it.

I was going to say the same thing. It's quite bitter. It also has to be pure cranberry juice, no sugar added, and not one of those "cocktail" juices.

ive been trying to mix the meds with a few things... she hates it on bits of toast, she ate half of it when mixed with cranberry juice and i mixed it with a bit of Peanut butter and put on a cracker and she seemed to like the PB the best, i just have to make she its mixed really well! Havent seen any blood since after her 2nd dose.. and she seems to be A LOT more active now. I have 2 water bowls in their cage for her now and she has been constantly drinking lots! Its her 3rd day on meds, she seems to be getting better...hopefully the doxy will work this once.

Be careful with the peanut butter.
Make sure it is well diluted and not thick, if too thick it can get stuck in the throat and cause a rat to die.

Yeah, the doxy actualy makes it perfect consistancy (more like ensure consistancy)! I also make sure she has a bowl of water right besdie her when shes eating it.

....ALSO... the instructions on the bottle say 2.5ML twice a day for 2 weeks..... 2.5ML is almost a full syringe. Is this the correct dosage.... it seems like A LOT....
It looks to be the right dosage according the the Ratguide, they suggest 2.5 mg per pound twice a day. 2.5 ml's of yours works out to that. I too use peanut butter with doxy & baytril, my med concentration is less but it liquidizes the peanut butter (sometimes I add a drop or 2 of liquid chocolate syrup) Another thing I use (different kids having different tastes) is International Delight coffe whitener, I alway have the French Vanilla in the fridge as it's what I use in my coffe every day - no calcium or anything else that would affect any meds.. a lot of my med-stubborn kids have like it. Comes in different flavors and lasts a long time in the fridge.
Yeah, best to use Doxy & Baytril together, but sounds like she is doing better YAY!!! Hope she's all totally good soon!

That's great that she seems to be getting better. Make sure you give her the antibiotics for the full length of time so that the infection doesn't come back.

tonight she is acting awsome! When i changed their cage i made sure to put a light pink blanket liner in so tmro i can check to see if there is ANY blood at all. Lets hope not. She seems to feeling 90% better tonight, shes acting like her old self again. Hopefully by the end of the 2 weeks it is all cleared up and shes a hapy girl again!

She ate it with peanutbutter agin tonight, she is being stubborn about everything else haha

thanks again for all the help

I know that, for me, I start feeling better hours after going on abs for a UTI. So glad she's feeling better :)

No traces of blood in the cage from what i can tell. I checked everywhere she usuialy pees and also where she was sleeping... Its looking good!!!

she is also taking her meds great also... I put her in their travel cage by herself with the tiny bit of mixed peanutbutter in a bowl, I think she has figured out that once the peanutbutter is gone she gets to go back with her friends! She gobbles it all down pretty quick now and then looks at me as to say "im done, let me out!"

the bread balls sound like a great idea! Maybe if they need to go on meds again.. the PB is working awsome with teaka, she looks forward to it every day, little does she know shes eating meds! I also like the PB cause it seems to be putting a bit of weight on her which she needs as she has always been a bit underweight and since i cant do ensure for the 2 weeks shes on meds the PB is awsome!

Its been a full week on the meds twice daily. She seems to be 100% better, back to her normal activity level (if not more), eating great, drinking lots. No blood found anywhere, none on her tail, or on her girl parts! Its looking good for my Miss. Teaka!
