I just received a (possible) father and son pair of hairless rats. :cloud9:
These are my first naked guys and I am looking for any advice you have to offer.

I have read about baby lotions and olive oil for the skin and to watch for eye issues.
Does anyone have any good links or tips?

Thanks

Awe your first living hot water bottles, congrats. There skin can get dry and you can use a bit of oil on them. I have had several hairless and never had to use oil, but all rats are different. They burn their calories faster so they tend to need more food. Scratches will look bad since they have no fur, but they heal very fast.

*Hehehehe* Ew! What's so special with the hairless one's? I can do furry rat's but I dunno if I could take in any hairless one's.
They are cute when someone else has them *lol*
Pic's Please!

I have 3 hairless, two of which are neutered, and their skin feels good, but the one who is not neutered feels so greasy sometimes i have to wipe him down with baby wipes. it is gross to touch him some times lol he is sticky.

they get a lot of pimple things, in odd places, they can become infected but if you keep them clean when they do turn red, they generally do ok. I am sure someone will come around with the right term, i think it is some sort of gland. But they also get these little skin cyst that starts with an S, and sometimes you have to squeeze them out, which is generally gross LOL unless you are moon, chels and lilspaz, they like that kind of stuff. I usually watch them for a while, if they stay to long, then i try to squeeze them, or if they are in a bad spot like near and eye, which I have had.

my boys usually get eye gunk, when they have an ear infection, smell their ears, and if you rub it and you hear liquid kinda make a noise in there, then they have an ear infection. One of my rats has it in one eye on an almost regular basis, but the squinty would concern me, i would have that checked out.
