I took Jasper in on Thursday, April 26th. The doctor took a look at him and could hear the crackling sound from his lungs.

He said it could be a virus and told me to keep giving the baytril/doxycycline because there's no cure for the virus. And that it was pneumonia.

I asked him if there were any other drugs he could prescribe to help with his breathing and he said "no". I asked like at least 3 times.

He said he might pull through and that was it.

I took him home and then his breathing got worse and then he was gone. My heart is broken now and I don't know if I'll ever get over it.

I'm so sorry about your boy. Pneumonia is terrible and can progress so quickly. :hugs: to you.

I do have a question for you about the clinic, I was thinking of using this clinic as my emergency clinic since the other here in Hamilton has crossed the line in my books and I refuse to return.
Im just wondering how open they are to treatment suggestions from their clients. My vet in kitchener that I normally go to works with me to treat my rats. If I suggest something new to try, we talk about it and decide. How do you think this vet would react if you were to suggest a different treatment?

He doesn't seem very open minded to me. And they said they can't comment on an animal they haven't seen yet. You might be able to email them and ask. He's not really interested in "rescuing" your rat. That's my impression. Better go to Dr. Munn cause they seem to have more affinity to rats.

Darn, this is what I thought. I go to Dr. Gerald in Kitchener, and he is great. Plus I know Kitchener so driving is a lot less scary for me then it would be to go to TO.
I was just hoping that they might be good in those cases where I either can't get to Kitchener due to time constraints because of school or whatever or when my vet isn't in. But I don't think I'll waste my time and money. I already wasted enough at the one here in Hamilton.

Ah well, I guess it will be Kitchener for me. We need a good rat vet in this area... then again, there are other places that don't have ANY good rat vets in a 1 hour drive and we have 2 so I will not complain too loudly.
