Sammie is on a number of meds as she is having respir difficulties, recently had a polyp removed from inside her ear, and may have heart problems. One of her lungs sounds like Sawyer (who has an enlarged heart), the other lung sounds fine. Sammie is a little over 1.5 years old.

Sammie was spayed as a young girl but now has a slight (dark, sometimes greenish yellow) discharge that seems to be coming from her vagina.
The vet looked at a sample yesterday and it does not contain any bacteria - this may be due to the antibiotics Sammie is taking.
Sammie really feels horrible and is not very active.

Does anyone have any ideas?

That's a tough one. Sounds like a stump infection but no bacteria?
Could maybe some of the meds make her feel terrible? I know that some of ours have a bad reaction to Baytril. They become lethargic and have stomach pains.
I really don't know what more can be done. :(

Thanks for your feedback.

I forgot to mention that toward the start of the week, the discharge smelled like pus to me.
Perhaps she might have a stump infection that the antibiotics are helping with?

My Bijou had a stump infection which took 3 months of Baytril to clear it up. And even then, my vet had told me that I was lucky it totally cleared up. When an infection is in the stump it can be almost impossible to treat. This was a few years ago, I wish I had asked her more details about that.

My old girl Pussywillow had a yellow discharge (looked like a penis plug). I sat her in a little tub of water twice a day and put her on Baytril and it cleared it. It did smell infection too. But she was almost 3 when this happened. Good luck with Sammie.

I feel so helpless about Sammie. Her breathing is noisy, and she gets panicked easily when I try to give her medication. Last night I did a switch to Chlorpalm (from Baytril/Clavamox) to see if that would help, but there is no difference. Yesterday at least she seemed livelier -- came readily to the cage door, was active in the cage and the play area -- but today she seems more lethargic again. The medication added just before yesterday was Metacam; vet suggested it in case there was inflammation and pain.

My Lily's breathing got quite bad in the fall and I was worried I would have to euthanize her, but the vet said 'Let's try some Prednisone - can't hurt.' I am happy to say Lily is still with us. So I would suggest Pred if there are no other options BUT I worry about the possibility of Sammie's maybe having an infection. If so, then maybe wait until that is cleared up before trying it......
