We are on rat/piggie sitting duty for the next two weeks. We are 7 adorable little visitors (2 piggies and 5 ratties). Sadly, was a last minute emergency. Literally last minute! She couldn't leave yesterday, as they had to get little Kalila into the vet first thing this morning.

Kalila can really use all the good thoughts she can get tomorrow. She's about 2 1/2, has cataracts on both eyes and has quite a few tumors. She had already been through 4 tumor surgeries, and finally her momma had to say enough was enough. Sweet little dear is doing well otherwise. It turns out she has a uterine tumor that is actually starting to show from her vagina. :sad3: The vet says it's not a prolapsed uterus and a spay might give Kalila some more time. So surgery is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

My friend has already talked with the vet and if they get in there and see that Kalila is just a mess....they will help her to the bridge. :sad3:

Of course, she's with me now. Her momma knows what could happen tomorrow....but I'll still be on pins and needles and just devastated if she doesn't make it.

Please send little Kalila your good thoughts, will you?

Thanks everyone,

I dropped Kalila off at the vet this morning. I got a call from her momma shortly after, to check on everyone and see how she did through the night.

Little Kalila was in good spirits this morning and was happily munching on a piece of cooked pasta, when I said good-bye.

It's really going to be a touch and go surgery and I'm soooo worried about her today. If anyone can get her in and out of surgery safely and quickly...it's our vet!

We're all rooting for her, Debbie! Hopefully all will go well. You, yourself said that if anyone can pull her through it, it's your vet! :wink2:

Well, I just called....the waiting is just so nerve wracking. Apparently, they have been working on a bunny all morning, and haven't even gotten to little Kalila yet.

So the waiting continues......

That is the very worst!

You keep your nerves in check until a certain time ("okay its only 2 more hours, I can survive!") then you find out that it hasn't even begun yet....ARRRGHH! :wallbang:

Bless her little heart, SHE MADE IT!!!! (HUGE sigh of relief here!)

The vet tech said she monitored well through the surgery and woke right up just fine too. What a tiny little trooper!

I honestly didn't know if she would make it and dreaded all day that I might have to call her momma with sad news. Thank goodness!

Apparently the tumors in her uterus is exactly what was prolapsing out her vagina. So the spay did the trick and she's good to go!

I'll pick little Kalila up in a couple of hours, get her back to our house in a nice fleece lined hospital cage, and serve up the Metacam Margaritas :wink2: I'll also be spoiling this little muffin rotten with all kinds of yummy soft foods.

Her momma was so happy to hear she made it!

Thanks again guys for helping me with good thoughts and kind words.
