I have before I just wanted to make sure what ones that I'd fed before, if they were okay in the moderation that they were given and some were not.

So basically..

To be given in moderation:
Banana
celery
watermelon
grapes
Basically any watery veggie as it can give them the runny poos

Okay Veggies:
Broccoli
Peas
Corn
Carrots -- Should I put this in moderation as well?

And high cocoa content chocolate should only be given if the rat/s are having severe breathing problems.
And No citrussy foods for male rats as studies have shown that the D-limonene that is contained in citrusy fruits can give them cancer. (at least last I checked the lists)

What about certain juices? Cranberry, apple, berry juice, etc? We often have these in stock at home and I think cranberry is supposed to be good for them isn't it?

Smilez you did give me a possibly good idea for the cage though. When you take the grill itself out it gives an extra 1/2 in or so of space between the 1.5 or so pan and the cage itself above it. If I managed to fit some sort of square wall or something on the inside of the pan against IT's walls I may be able to just take out the grill and be able to slide that pan in and out without having to have them on a grill for their poor feet, if that makes any sense at all :p

I'm still keeping an eye out for the SP 1st home for Exotics because the cage that I've shown is about 130 - 150 dollars on ebay and that store I linked too, the Exotics cage is only 100 abouts and would serve as a suitable cage for 2 or 3 girls or boys until I splurge and get the bigger cage. plus then, if I decide to get any additions? QT cage and sick cage ^_^

For the life of me I see all the food lists that say which ones are Bad or are okay in Moderation but I can never seem to find a list for general veggies that are commonly fed and loved by rats. This is helping a lot <3

>.> I wish I could start my DIY CN cage that I plan on doing but can't until after we get settled into an apartment.. and we also have bins on sale at HomeDepot where I work. The temptation sucks!

You can remove the grill? Not sure what kind of resource you have but you might be able to attach the pan the the cage just using wire...or could you just put something under the pan to raise it so there was no space between it and the cage?

I don't give juice due to sugars and also you forgot kale and spring mix ..the most important veggies

I've never actually used, seen, or have had them before but I'll put at least kale into the mix for looking for veggies. I'm not sure about spring mix though? Is it a mix of stuff or something else?

@Smilez: The grill and pan are kept in place by a small sliding little tab thing on either side of the pan on the front. They are able to slide forward out of the cage for easy cleaning when you put the tab up. Grill & pan. I used to take the grill itself out once a week and give it a good soap and scrub along with the shelves.

The way the pan slides in I *might* be able to do that but it slides in on a sort of track where there is support on the back and sides to keep the pan from falling. Same for the grill if I recall. If it is then I might have be able to secure it with wire to the cage itself *might make it a bit harder to clean but... it's not that hard to clean in the first place* But I'm thinking if I can put some sort of plastic that's a little taller than the pan itself along the walls of the pan I would be able to keep more bedding in there because personally I dread using fleece on anything but the shelves. That and I vastly prefer litter for some odd reason.

We'll see how it goes, It's been a year since I've had that cage so I'm not sure if the grill is on a track but I believe that it is. In any case I'm still looking for the SP Exotics cage first for price and it seems a little easier at least at the start *For a tiny person like me, putting the big cage itself together took me and a friend because of the fact that on the stand it is taller than me Y_Y*. Sometimes I really hate being short for this reason. I'll need a step stool just to wipe off the top of the cage! Or make Corbin do it.. that's a better idea >.>

How about nectar? Like pear nectar and such? We've been finding those lately at the grocery stores and haven't gotten any yet but as far as I know they contain literally the nectar of the fruits and that's it. I'll have to check though, they might have too much natural surgars though.

And I've got pretty good resources :D I work at home depot so actually Getting any of the things I'd probably need for modifying that cage would be a breeze, and I think I can order an extra shelf from the place that I can get the cage from but will have to check. You get 2 but we ended up getting 3 because one of the little pole pieces on the shelve grill thingies had detached from the support on one side. We took that one piece off and covered the shelves with fleece so it was still useable. And they loved climbing through the hammock up top to get from one shelf to the other hehe

What's the difference between a spring mix and a bag of mixed veggies(lima beans, peas, corn, etc)?

Also forgot to ask this last time, what berries that are okay to feed? If I remember blueberries are okay but you don't want to give them too much?

Spring mix is all kinds of yummy lettuces.
Fruits should be in moderation, I wouldn't give fruits everyday, maybe a couple of times a week.
I would think all berries are good. Blueberries being the best, full of antioxidants.

I think I have a better idea on what I want to get ratties now =) Thanks for all the help guys, it's cleared up a lot of crappy info I got from a certain ratforum.com

I personally don't like blueberries.. or mushrooms for that matter but the boyfriend does so they'll get their blueberries.. though definitely in moderation.. I've heard those can cause stinky/runny poos?

Jo: I really love the licky piccy that's your avatar, makes me crack up every time I see it. Like... Rat: Nyaaaaa!
