Gah so complicating when its not as easy as stowing something and hope it'll last, hope it works out

I called and the technician said that she'll tell the vet to call me back.

I'll ask for ammoxicilin today and suggest the pharmacy.. if she says no... I'll call again in a couple of days telling her that Baytril alone isn't working... she'll have to prescribe another one, right? :/

Dopeys ear infections were fine with baytril alone. We had injectable and it would be dropped in his ear directly. I have also used solely baytril on a ton of abscesses and it has cleared it up. For my dogs I usually get clavamox for whatever reason. I dont know that amox would work with this? I thought that was for more a lung/respiratory issue rather than skin like baytril and clavamox is for.

My Baytril is given orally... he didn't get any drops in his ear..
and I could ask for Clavamox instead then. :p

:sad3:
How do you know when it's time to let a rat with PT go? I certainly don't want to find him dead, or dying as I don't own a car, so rushing him to the vet for an emergency pts would be almost impossible.

I decided to let my girl with PT go when she could no longer locate the food I was trying to hand-feed her. She became unable to eat on her own a couple weeks before then, and she couldn't walk without tipping over multiple times. But when she couldn't even orient herself towards her favorite treats, I started worrying about coming home to find her gone. That was when I made that painful decision - I didn't want her passing without me being there to hold her.

I talked about Deno when on my appointment for Smokey today

She still wouldn't prescribe steroids (as he wasn't there)... but I at least came back with Clavamox for him...
She said not to mix it with Baytril as it if dangerous... but I'll trust you guys instead..

Is 0.08ml twice a day with 0.6ml of baytril twice a day the right dosage? He is about 600g.

There are certain types of antibiotics that work well with each other, and others that work against each other. They interfer with each others action. Amoxicillin and Metronidazole work well together. Baytril and Doxycycline work well together.
(Clarification - Clavamox is Amoxicillin + clavulanate (a drug to help with resistant bacteria))

Edited: Sorry, I was wrong. I think that Amoxicillin and Baytril are both bactericidal and do work OK together.
You don't usually want to use bactericidal and bacteriostatic at the same time.

Clavamox and baytril work well together and are frequently used together when dealing with resistent infections in various animals.
They are recommended as an antibiotic combination for treating inner ear infections.
They may not increase the strenght of one another but each is effective against different things so this combo can be very powerful.

The amount of meds depends on the strength but the clavamox sounds way too low

I had to add 14mL of water to this powder to make a 15mL solution. It says: Each mL of reconstituted suspension contains 50mg of amoxicillin and 12.5mg of clavulanic. Each unreconstituted bottle contains 750mg of amoxicillin and 187.5mg of clavulanic acid.
