They did still cut the appropriate vessels so that means if there was any testicle sac remaining, it should shrivel up too.
He may take a couple of days to recover, some recover faster than others.

Well, just to be on the safe side i called the vet again, the vet who did the surgery wasn't necissarly our orginal doctor, as he was not in today and selected her to do the surgery as he was confident in her abilities. She had done neuters on rats before so she had confidence as well. However today i looked at the operated area and it looked like there was still a testicle still there or intact. I explained this to her, to which she explained the situation to our orginal vet and rodent expert the previous issue she had when she was operating. Theoretically the vessels she cut off she said would make the other testicle shrivel up and die, but she wants to make sure and said she'd run it by our orginal vet who will call me most likely tomrrow as he's busy in other surgeries today. She said they wouldn't charge me if they have to go back in, and they want to make sure the job was done properly. She said he was a unique little guy, she never encountered this issue with rats before, and I don't doubt her abilities but i feel having our orginal vet, be part of the surgery in the future from now on, and for now, he give his opinon on the situation.

But on the brighter side, Dax is drinking his water, I've not seen him eat as much other then a few treats i've given him. He seems to be focused on resting and healing, getting up every few hours to drink. I check up on him occassional to make sure no issues arise and so far so good. He really needs those healing vibes though guys. Keep'em coming! Thanks!

I know dealing with reoccuring abscess are not fun, i did that for a long time with those botched neuters of mine. The only way i could justify that she left full testicles was for whatever reason they pulled one inside and she didnt take the time to find them. That caused a lot of infection though I would worry that having a dying testicle would do that same, that was the problem with half of templetons, most of it was dying off.

You will want to give him pain meds for 5 days or so.
Rats frequently get neuter abscesses so hopefully he is on antibiotics.
He will also likely do better if he is back in with his brothers.
Once rats are no longer grogy after surgery, they are fine to go back in with their cage mates.
It is stressful for them to be seperated.

Well I just put him back in his brothers cage today, he's defiently not groggy nor having issues getting around or climbing. He's very very tender though, i can't touch his tail or gently lift it without him squeaking in pain...poor baby :( I did get a bit of pain medicine in him, but he just utterly refused to take it willingly, and since he's a nakie, small, and tender already, I couldn't really restrain him to take it without him squeaking in pain, so I didn't push it more then i did. He seems to not be in pain to walk or climb, but i'm keeping a close eye on him.

I'm waiting for a call back from my vet about re-seeing him early to make sure the operation was a success in regards to the issue, cause i'm sure he'd probably agree with ya'll that his testicle 'she might have missed' was just tucked in, and she really couldn't find it, even with help. I know they did try to find it, cause his surgery was taken place at 8am of my time, and they didn't call me back to tell me they finished till 2-3pm-ish. I think this was just her first case of ratties hiding their boys for her and she didn't know where to look. I don't blame her or my vet for suggesting her to do it since he had confidence in her, but think for now on I'd just better let him handle it.

I would take him in. None of my boys squaked with moving the tail. I seen owie stretches but never vocal. The wall can tighten up where the cavity is that the testicle goes up in and if it tightens down on that testicle it can cause pain. Just be glad your vet is willing to work with you and not just say it grew back lol.

If I dont hear back from my vet in 1hr i'm calling them thats for sure. I noticed the operated area is starting to smell off, if not very foul and I'm growing concerned about that. I don't see signs of cists or ulsers though.

Well my vet confirmed what ya'll stated, there is infact his left testicle still left inside him, and it has obviously died, and is causing a foul smell inside my poor Dax, and some infection. Our vet said it was good I didn't wait any later otherwise it might have gotten far more worse then it is. He has to go under again today to get it out, and he's gonna be injected with some antibiotics, and get more pain medicine with some cherry flavor. Hopefully he won't be too stubborn to take that, but for right now I'm more worried about him getting through another stressful surgery. He did great when he was under the first time they said, so I hope he can pull through this one as well... :sad3: ... :cry4: my poor baby

I am glad that my being paranoid was for a good cause. the second I seen what she said It caused major panic in me.

Things just keep getting worse for us it seems...

Ok good news first is, my orginal vet took inititive to remove the dead testicle and that was a complete success.

Now the bad news...he noticed something was very wrong that he was oozing a liquid more then he should be, and tested the ooze and realized it wasn't even that, it was URINE!! He suspects during Dax's first surgery, something went wrong with the cutting and now somewhere a nerve that connects to his scrotem was damaged, and he's basically peeing out in places he's not supposed to...The head of the rodent department who also took part in the first surgery, was horrified by the other doctor's mistake but she also blames herself cause she was also there for the procedure...and they are all expressing sincere apologies and hate they are putting me and my boy Dax especially through this...

So last night, I took Dax home where he'd be more comfortable and I could look after him better, gave him some baytril to help with his current operation, then took him back to the vet this morning. The vets are currently waiting on a response for 2 poltential experts who would be willing to take on this surgery to fix what was damaged. Two ways it could be fixed: they fix it completely and he pees through his penis like normal, or they give him another way to pee out in another location, either way he'd be able to live a forfilling life with either one of those they say confidently...its just him surviving this kind of surgery and of course finding anyone willing to take on the challenge. They are also covering for this operation since they were the ones that caused this chaos for us...they all feel horrible about it and promised to do everything they can to make it right again. I don't know whether to be angry at them, or accept they just made a mistake and pray for Dax to get help and recover...the second one just sounds more constructive though :( I just want my baby nakie back. :cry4:

It was draining out in one particular spot, so they left that spot open and didn't wanna risk blocking it and causing more issues, but are keeping that area clean and keeping him on antibiotics to prevent any risk of further infection.

I did just get the call in though, that they have successfully found two expert surgians that are gonna work together to try and repair the damage thank god...I just hope they can do it and he'll make it through... His surgery will start at either 5 or 5:30pm my time, and they will keep me informed by the hour when it starts. Please send healing vibes or prayers everyone :( we really REALLY need to cross our fingers here :(

I have been following this thread and I have everything I can cross crossed for Dax and you. I am sure you will have a healthy boy back in your hands in a very short time. Thank you for keeping us posted. Will be waiting to hear the good news.
