I just noticed my rat Stefan was drooling a lot.
Is he choking? I gave him a treat not too long ago, so it does make sense..
If so, when should I see a vet if it don´t pass?
He seems rather okay, walking, not seem to panic(but wanted back in his cage).
I know it´s probably been asked before, but I couldn´t find anything right now
Never dealt with this before..

If he's drooling, he's working it out of his throat, so just support him as best you can. ::hugs:: Mr. Honeycomb tended to choke sometimes too, always scary, but always turned out okay.

Thank you..
I am trying to, but it´s hard.. it´s always something with that poor little creature..
He seems to take it calmly tho.. He´s laying in his hammock mostly..
How do I know if he´s gotten it out? he still seem to be drooling, but I have trouble seeing if it´s less, since he´s soaked..

He'll stay quiet until it's done. I wouldn't disturb him at all while he's drooling and working it out. You'll see a big difference in him when he's done. It can take a couple of hours.

Thank you for the answer. I´ll let him be then.. I check on him frequently, but I don´t touch him..
A big difference in what way?
He´s usually the kind that just sleeps anyway, so exactly what am I looking for?

He´s reddish around the nose now(porph I guess?) and not drooling as excessively I _think_..
I hate this part with pets..

His normal behavior is laying in his hammock either staring at me, or sleeping.. Just as he´s been most of the time.. :giggle:

Mine too, they just hang out in the hammock and such but they look so much differently when they are done with their choking. I don't know, maybe it's just me... feeling a great sense of relief. lol

:giggle: yeah probably..
I just have to check that he´s breathing from time to time :giggle:
I hope he´s over the worst tho.. it looks like he´s stopped drooling, or at least drooling less..

Is this normal? he sometimes do make sounds(they all do, but the vet can´t find anything wrong)..
He don´t seem to be stressing too much..

It looks like he's still trying to get it out. Their ears go back and I think I saw him doing that. I've also had some make that noise. Fingers crossed for your sweetie.

Thank you.. I hope so too.. It was a very try treat that got stuck, so maybe it´s harder to get out?

I tried listening to his chest(stethoscope), and I only heard a heartbeat. He should be stressed or I should hear something else if it´s serious?

He's definitely breathing so no worries there. Give it more time, it can take hours. Once my Milo, was like that all through the night.

I nursed Princess through a choking fit that I think lasted until 5 AM one night... from like 10 PM - I'm not sure who was more exhausted, her or me... >.<

That sort of gagging motion I saw him make in the video is just an attempt to get it out - it is normal - incredibly nerve-wracking but normal!
