Store bought hammocks really don't stand up very well to rats. The ones Petunia makes have lasted me a long time and many rats and are reasonably priced. I suggest getting designs that have at least two openings if there are pockets, otherwise most rats feel the urge to remodel :s

If not there's a thread on the forum with hammock tutorials or there's this site: http://www.finchaviary.com/Rat/Rat%20Tu ... orials.htm among others.

I have already looked at the hammocks Petunia makes and I think I will have to contact her I have my eye on the black waves set she has, now I just have to figure out how to use PayPal with my bank account since I no longer have a credit card.

I have Spork on FB, I can contact her and see if she'll still make them...

If you're going for cost effective, it's usually best to invest in a cheap sewing machine (vintage on craigslist is usually the most bang for your buck, and currently the only machines I will use) and learn to sew them yourself. I have an old set from Momrat & I'm sure they aren't terribly hard to do, but she really did have the sizing down to an art for fitting perfectly snug on the pans & shelves. I can't advise on how to sew that version as I've never sewn that style before. As far as I know, that was her signature product and most here try not to use other people's designs. Those were the only liners I've seen to date with that fit.

But, if you learned to sew the double layer yourself, it would still be more cost effective than paying someone else to do it for you. & with time, you'll gain the speed necessary for it to be worth your while. They are basically like sewing a very large flat hammock, and rats are *not* picky on how well you can sew them, so don't let that deter you. Watch for fabric sales & stock up when you can. It's really the most cost effective way to do it, as anyone sewing for you who runs a business just has too many other costs to factor in that they must consider when pricing their items.
