Unfortunately Dotty died yesterday morning. ): She'd been doing very well on the baytril, but then suddenly at four in the morning yesterday I woke up to the sound of laboured breathing. She died a little while later. ):

Considering she was old for a rat, I could say it was old age. But the bleeding is what's off.

My rat Charolette died at 5 months because of a shortage of blood cells, probably because of blood loss from falling wrong in the cage. However, I found a TINY spot of blood in the cage and nothing on her body. Though she stayed alive for a good 16 or so hours, so it may be that she cleaned it off. She was, too, super healthy and young and perfectly fine. Maybe this could be an option, as it happened so suddently and pretty much out of nowhere.

Edit: if you're sure it's the other rats, then I'd just like to point out how lucky your sweetie is. I think we all wish that our rats could be completely content and healthy until they pass peacefully in their sleep.

It's a hard situation now, as Delilah (Dotty's sister) hates my new rat Arya and intros have been the worst I've ever had, but my other two rats are terminally ill and showing their age, so at some point Delilah's going to be alone for a little while before I can get her used to Arya, I think. ):

I feel like the constant bearer of bad news. ): Webster died in the night. It looks like it was peaceful, and she was quite well last night, so it was really probably the best possible way for her. She had PT, but had been quite active lately.

I'm curious, what treatment did you give them for lice? All this has been happening since you treated them?

Most of it has been happening since then. The day I found out they had lice was the day I took Webster to the vet for her PT, so she had symptoms before then. Dingo and the others all died after I started treatment.
They were prescribed Revolution (one drop on the nape of the neck for three weeks, every two weeks: three rounds total). They have their last treatment on Wednesday this coming week.
This couldn't somehow be related, could it? If so, that would be terrible. ):

Revolution is safe. If it was ivermectin I'd wonder about possible overdose or something.

That's good to know! I thought I'd read that it was safe, so I was a bit surprised and worried.

Thanks for the good wishes everyone! It's definitely been a hard month. ): The majority of my rats are around the same age, so I imagine that's why it's all happening so close together.

(Revolution is considered safe for rats but usually only given once in 30 days ...)

Hmmmm. Should I give my remaining rats their last dosage on Wednesday? If I don't, will they still have the lice? I don't want to over-medicate them.
Arya still has what I assume are the louse egg-cases on her (when I got her I thought it was just dandruff, arrrrrrg!).
I should note that it is the puppy/kitten Revolution; I don't know if that makes a difference.

I've also been having to wipe Lola down, as she can't clean herself well anymore and gets the soft food I feed her all over her paws. Will bathing her affect the effectiveness of the medicine?

OMG, I'm so sorry to hear of the devastation & losses in your world! :hugs: I actually tuned into your post cause my literal 'pet' peeve is that I hate the word 'owner' when it comes to pets and I was gonna suggest 'caretaker' instead. I wasn't expecting to find the level of loss you've been thru.
So do you think Arya came with something that caused this? If so where did you get her? Surely all her past (& future) littermates are suffering the same and people should be aware to fix it before it does more harm.
I hope your remaining kids will be ok. A chocolate chip is the best emotional pill for them. For you, nobody ever hurts alone here, every commisseration comes from a heart that truly understands. For your kids lost to this, I'm so sorry for their suffering, but heaven cures all.
