My rat has been making weird squeaks and i'm going to get him some medicine. Last two times my vet gave me 15ml "Clavamox" Drops. "Give 0.5ml orally every 12 hours for 14 days." It did seem to work somewhat when i gave it to him, but he hates it so much that i often lose a bit from every dose. He wont even touch a whole teaspoon of grape jelly that has a single drop of the medicine in it. Are there any better antibiotics that might work and maybe taste better? The last one smelled like it was bubblegum flavour. Clavamox is also very expensive.

I would return to the vet and ask for Baytril. Ask him for the already flavoured one. Most rats like that stuff. Baytril is also more effective than Clavamox for a URI.

He gave me Baytril in pill form. Much better price and taste than the other stuff. I crush the half tablet dose into a baby spoon of sweet liquid (usually syrup) and my rat is none the wiser. He thinks he's getting treats! :D

Thanks again for the help.!

We have had good luck with a Baytril and Doxy combo for respiratory issues. We have a compounding pharmacy a little drive away, so it comes strawberry flavored.

Mixed into applesauce, baby food, or rice cereal, it is usually danced for.
