Asha decided I must be bored - injury (healing pics)

Sigh...Asha my strange little hoodie gal, who is a sister of Mamarat's Sam and Jevy (and really should've been a boy with the testosterone that runs through her :roll

For 90% of the time she is the utter subbie rat, who gets powergroomed, dragged around by the fur, etc...its rather sad to listen to her pitiful squeaks, but then she is very happy cuddling up with them later on. Ever once in awhile she Turns. Attacks everyone,and even hunts down rats. The cage goes into High Alert and everyone is nervous. Dilly has scabs on his back where she got him when he bumped into her. Well last night she pushed it a bit too far and someone bit her chin and cheek...sigh. The blood pooled under the skin and she has this massive swelling under her throat.
I didn't compress it because it wasn't bleeding and I was afraid to touch it since it might start. She was very uncomfortable so I gave her a titch of metacam and then she went off to eat some veggies. I am hoping that the blood will reabsorb slowly.

This morning the swelling is the same but her eyes are bright, no porphy, and her fur is flat and sleek. She finally got her turn at the pink treat in the syringe. LOL.

The blood may reabsorb (fingers crossed!) or it may abscess, hence the baytril. I may be able to treat it at home or it may need to be lanced.

Keep us updated, hopefully it shouldn't be a problem as we know how resiliant these little things are when it comes to physical injuries.

Man that looks horrible. She must have really pissed whoever did that off BAD. :evil: Poor girly I hope it just gets better so she doesn't need a trip to the vet. Good thing our furkids are fast healers and pretty good at dealing with pain.

The poor sweetie. Sam and Jevy send their love. They used to be the bullies but now the Wildthings have come into their own and have taken over. Hope Asha feels better soon, I love her name.

She on the otherhand is acting like nothing happened.

I will continue her baytril, and think about the compresses. LOL. I only was able to take that good pic before my rechargeable batteries died.

I know you've been worried about exactly this sort of thing happening. Poor silly girl. Do you think they have medication for bi-polar rats?

I really do think it was just a fluke thing that happens once in awhile with rats.

Sounds like one of my boys in daycare... sweet and totally submissive, but if someone rubs him the wrong way, it's like a tornado. Luckily he'd got good bite inhabition so he doesn't break skin. Otherwise he'd not be able to come to daycare.

Isn't she Adia's sister or weren't they cagemates before being integrated to a bigger group?

Her face is totally looking better. Hopefully it keeps getting better.

Yep I put her back in with her cagemates. I have separated her before a long time ago when she was getting "feisty" and it did absolutely nothing, but left me with a very agitated rat who went "hunting" as soon as she was returned. She's over 2 now and has mellowed so this was a bit of a surprise.

Tonight I came home to her and the biter (sweet Vesta) cuddled up on the top shelf together. Vesta was actually more agitated and upset than Asha last nigth. Vesta had her pinned and Asha, instead of lying there allowing the pin, would fight back. With normal ratiquette...they "give" and the pinner stands on them a while longer then walks away. Asha keeps fighting. She just doesn't respond the correct way. I saw Vesta start to walk away and Asha bounced up and threw herself on Vesta. Vesta ended up on her back...and thats when Asha instead of pinning, lowered her head and bit Vesta's belly (big no-no with dominance pins) and I guess it startled Vesta into her bite back.

moon, Asha is Adia's sister, who really is a small sweet girl...she licks whereas Asha gets a bit rough and scrapes with her teeth. Adia, Asha, Sam, Jevy and Adam (RIP) all came from a rehoming situation.
