What you'll need is food that they can't remove... smear the cage bars with peanut butter so that they have to go in and lick it if they want some. Waiting nearby will probably be the only way to get them.
You and Attitude are such wonderful people for doing this.
3 years ago, there was another similar situation in Ottawa. A lady with no rat knowledge found two rats in her back yard, she was able to coax them into a cage but nobody in the area were able to help her. Finally Shelagh (lilspaz) did a lot of calls to the lady to help her out. I drove out to Ottawa since I was going there to visit my best friend, I picked up the rats and brought them back to Shelagh and mamarat kept 3 males.
We all do what we can to help, some with advice, some with experience, some with finances, some with transport and others can physically be there to do the leg work. Everyone is important during a rescue... everyone tries to the best of their abilities and limitations.
