I don't know what's going on with my "colony". We were giving them their bedtime snacks and Nero wouldn't take his. We pull him out and he sounds so bad. Worst clicking sound I've heard yet. He was completely fine this morning! Has had no signs at all. Am I missing something!? I'm getting so frustrated.

Raybeam had no signs either. They are from 2 different cages (yes same airspace). The cage that Raybeam came from just had 2 babies sick with a URI but it was simple.

:( I will go nuts if I lose this guy he's only 9-10 months old. I feel sick to my stomach.

Last august I found Eleanor with pneumonia set an appointment to take her in and I found ludo In the cage gasping. I added him to the appt. Right before I left I found Lucy breathing hard. I was hit with 3 cases of Pneumonia. I havent that happen but if any sneeze to much now I medicate.

Okay, so I feel a little better hearing that. I felt like complete crap last night, being a bad rat mom. You can ask Cinder, I was flipping out on myself. It's so scary that they were both so bad, and you couldn't even hear it until you put your ear up on them. The only triggers was that Raybeam was walking with an arch and Nero was not eating. *sigh* Being a rat mom is tough.

sorry about your "kids" being sick,I hope they get better fast

I've got a sick little girl myself and I didn't realize it til she was really bad (I honestly thought she had something wrong with her heart, not her lungs)

anyway I'm interested in what you mean when you say Raybeam was walking with an arch...? I noticed Brenna walking oddly but really couldn't seem to put my finger on what was different about it

do they arch their back up?
to me it seemed like she was holding her belly up higher. at first I thought she was walking tip-toed or something but maybe this was it, instead

Ya, that's the worse part of big colonies. There's always someone getting sick it seems. Hopefully a good dose of meds will get him back to health.
Another thing I noticed is that some rats who are choking can also appear to be listless and clicking too. It can do a number on their system stress wise and recover fast with meds.

He was arched up walking, almost looked like a ferret walking (besides their crazy side steps they do). Clenching in his stomach and walking like he had a (excuse my description) a stick up his rear end. LOL

Thanks Jo. It really stinks. :( All of them are on a crazy watch now, Bry said that one is starting to make noise, so he just put him on meds too. I will get this under control darnnit!

Sending tons of get better vibes your way!

I swear that with rodent health scares, if it isn't one thing, its another. After seeing Felix through his choking episode the other day, I spent all of last night fishing out a moldy peanut that had been stuck in a hamster cheek pouch. I'm surprised I haven't sprung gray hairs yet!

Oh jeesh. That must have stunk to high heaven. Gross!

And yes. We had another scare yesterday with Poco gasping...I just don't catch a break. Whatever strand of sickness these guys have it's a tough one. They'll all have to be on meds for 2ish months to get rid of it. Ridiculous.
