I started my rat Luma on Doxycycline about a week ago, and with no improvement I asked a vet if I could get her some Baytril. I was there for my rat Owl and asked if she could get some as she had been sneezing quite a bit. He said just to use the Baytril he gave for Owl. Anyway, Luma is getting 2.5mg/0.3cc twice daily of Doxy. I had mixed a 100mg capsule in 12ml of liquid. She is getting 1.5 (Is that correct? between 0.1 and 0.2) of Baytril, twice daily the same time as the Doxy. I don't know the concentration of the Baytril. Am I administering these correctly?
I am also getting worried as Luma sounds like she is coughing/very raspy sneezes. They aren't too frequent, but it's worse right now it seems. She is making noises in her sleep and seems to be having trouble sleeping. Does this sound like Pneumonia, or an Upper respiratory infection and will the antibiotics I am giving her fix it? She has been this way a little before I started the Baytril. I actually brought her to the vet with me just in case he'd be willing to look at her for me without charge but after I mentioned I couldn't pay for an exam he seemed like he didn't care and didn't even say he'll look at her, and don't worry about the money. I have enough money to take Luma to the vet, a better one, but don't get money often and unfortunately have to usually take my rats to the vet when I know it's absolutely necessary.
I am going to take her in the bathroom right now to hopefully help her breathe easier.
