Most of you know that Oscar, Teddy & Bruno went into get neutered Friday past (July 2/10) and sadly my little man Bruno passed away just after waking up :sad3:
My question now is, they got disolvable stiches, and teddy's seem to be open a little and yesterday Oscar was cleaning that area and a scab came off, there was very little blood.
They don't seem to be in pain, and the area is not red.
Id there anything I should do? I called my vet but he is on holidays for the next 3 weeks :wallbang:

Also right now I have them in a single level cage with fleece blankets, they are eating and drinking well, but seem depressed from the loss of there brother :(

Is there another someone else at your vet's office you could see? When I had Queen neutered the outer incision was closed with glue and it came apart, so I took him back to the vet and they reglued it in order to ensure it healed properly. If not I guess the next best thing is to make sure the incision stays very clean so it can heal without infection.

What meds (if any) were your boys given for pain and/or infection?

There is someone else I could take them to, but I really don't want to if I can avoid it because he is not the nicest.
They have been given metacam for pain, for the first 3 days after surgery, which is gone now.
I have been cleaning the area with salien (sp?)

If it's just a small opening and no bleeding I usually just keep an eye on it. I would not use the saline though, keep the area dry. I would also put them back in their regular home. They could also be grieving for Bruno, poor sweeties, but their familiar home might help them to forget. This is just my opinion.

Yes, it's very very small, you can hardly see it.
What should I use to keep the area clean?
I will put them back in their regular cage tonight, I had them in a different one because I did not want them climbing and jumping around.

I put mine back in their "normal" cages after a neuter. I rarely worry about climbing/jumping because I figure, if it hurt them they wouldn't do it! Haha. He should be juuuust fine. Some of mine pull out their stitches/rip their glue two days after surgery, and still heal fine.

Alright, haha thanks.

I also put the hammock bruno was last in, in the cage with them. They never leave it :(

They are still grieving for Bruno, just make sure they eat and drink though as some will stop eating mourning for a lost pal.

I have been watching their eating and drinking habits, nothing has changed as of right now. They also have out time everyday with their neutered brothers who live with the girls (they have always done this), this seems to cheer them up alot.

I remember once my Oliver had a huge gaping hole open up and I just about flew back to the vet's. They calmed me down and told me it was just fine and to go home and keep his habitat clean. So I wouldn't be worried about your little guys.

A little bit of an opening isn't necessarily a bad thing also because it lets the area drain if it's collecting any fluid.
