Hi all,

im new here but Ratatat is my fourth and most beloved rat. Full of spunk and adventure and so much love. He is twenty five months old and suddenly presented with severe PT symptoms. His hind legs are almost useless and one is turned purple in color. He seems listless and will not eat or drink. I brought him to the vet and they gave a dex injection and will call in cabergoline to a compounding pharmacy tomorrow am. The steroid seemed to perk him up some but now he’s back to just side laying and blankly staring into space, eyes wide open. Does anyone have advice on cabergoline and prednisone? He’s also on doxy and baytril for mycoplasma flare ups. Will the cabergoline reverse this? How do I force him to eat? Is he in pain? Any advice is so appreciated. Thank you all.

When did he get the dex injection? over 2-3 days ago? The fact that he responded at all is a good sign. You should offer him soft foods he can lick up, as he won't be able to eat solids right now. If he's unable to eat soft foods on his own, try offering off your fingers or a syringe if it is watered down a lot.
