So I got a message from someone who had an oops litter. Apparently they got my email through the grapevine and have heard that I'm an avid rat lover. They want me to take a look at their litter and possibly adopt. I am thinking about it, but have some questions first.

I know that I need to QT for at least 3 weeks. I have a place for them to be QT'd at (Boyfriend's parents' house), so that isn't a concern. But what precautions do I need to take? When leaving from there, I go to school for about 2 hours and it takes me about an hour and a half to get home. Is that long enough to be considered "safe" or should I keep a change of clothes, or spray myself with lysol? I mean what? I'm confused at this point. I've looked up some info about it, but yeah... LoL

When I DO look at the rittens (there isn't a guarantee I'm going to adopt... or is there? :cheeky: ) what should I look for in terms of overall health? They're estimated at about 4 weeks and I've looked around for ideas on sexing them (although I would appreciate more help, because I don't want to end up with babies later).

*sigh* This is stressful. Lol. I wont meet with these people until Tuesday, so I'll let you know what the situation is.

My personal opinion is that your quarantine seems pretty solid. You could go the extra mile and do a change of clothes.
Sexing them at 4 weeks is super easy...look for the big lumps by their bums. Those will be males. lol
You'll want happy, bouncy, curious and active rats. Look for clear eyes, clear nose, clear bums. Also, they should not make any noise other than their normal play squeaks.

Yeah, your QT sounds good to me. I'd probably time my day to include a shower on arrival home but I'm a worry wart like that.

Good luck with the "possible" adoption... yeah, right.... "possible".. LOL

Tomorrow I get to go see the bubs... aaaaahhhhrrrghldflaskdjf  I'm so excited. I keep telling myself: "If you do adopt you can't have more than two.. you can't have more than two.." and then I think: "But I have two frakencages dismantled..." Whew. This is hard stuff. I'm thinking I might take my camera with me tomorrow and ask if I can take pictures.

Weeee...!

Yeah hope you get to take pictures, if you do you must share! I would bet you will end up with at least four. We all know what it's like when GGMR strikes!

Oh man. I am so annoyed. I spent a better half of my day just trying to get in contact with these people, even though we had agreed to meet today. Then I had to sit around for them to "get home" and they never did. Never have I been pushed around the bush so badly. I'm going to try again Thursday because that's when I'll be in town again, but JEEZ. Honestly? No responsibility these people. Poor baby ratties...

The worst thing was the fact that you could TELL this (I hesitate to use the word "person") woman just did not want anything to do with them. "You can have as many as you want. We're trying to get rid of them." :redhot:
