    Combining 2 cages

I am getting my first pair of rats soon and I had bought a pretty decent size bird cage, but the woman I am adopting them from is also selling me a large cage fairly cheap. Rather than throw away the bird cage, I was thinking of combining the two horizontally with a tube. Anyone have any...

    Is it good cage?

I got a hairless rat back in September. She is my first rat, was an impulse buy (sorry) and I knew nothing about rats. Stopped at a pet store on my way home and got a cage (Kaytee). As soon as I got home, I started investigating, and, oh, surprise, you can't keep just one rat alone or they'll go...

Our new baby rats are not cage curious, what do we do?

Three days ago my husband and I got two beautiful baby girls from Futterhaus (pet shop, as there seem to be no breeders in Hamburg, or they are hiding very well). The girls are absolute angels when handled; they don't bite and sleep in a hood if one is offered. However, we are finding that they...

    red orange substance in cage

when I surface clean the cage, sometimes there is a redish orange tinge that shows up on the wipe. I was wondering what this was because everytime I try to search it it only comes up with sites about porphyrin around the rats eyes, but that's not it. All help and responses are appreciated.

    Fleece cage liner and magnets?

Hey Rat pack! I got a question. So I've been using fleece for my bottom cage liner with a litter pan in the corner. Thing is, the girls nudge and move the fleece, making a big mess! The bottom pan is wide and metal, so I was thinking of laying down magnets, but I don't want them to chew the...

How many rats can fit in my cage?

hi everyone! My female rat is pregnant (feel free to check out my other thread about it!) and she should be giving birth any day now. When she does I’m planning on keeping a couple of the female kittens as roommates for her as we will be seperating her from her brothers to stop more litters and...

    Suspended tunnels in cage

Hey y'all! You all were so helpful in my last thread, so I figured I'd try and run another idea past you. I was going to make a whole fleece tunnel system suspended from the top of my rattie's cage. However, I put a hammock up there about 5 weeks ago, and he has never used it. He'll put his...

    Boggle boggle, brux brux...

Hey all! I've kept rats in the past, loved them to bits, but I'm currently ratless. :( I'm hoping to jump back into the fancy rat community as soon as I have worked out my budget for vet's bills and such. However, I'm a bit behind the times in regards to rat-care, and I need a bit of advice...

    Cage help :)

Hello, I'm hoping to get a pair of rats in the not so distant future. Just currently researching and getting all my information straight before I do. So any information given would be massively appreciated. Does anyone have the thicket cage that pets at home were selling for degu's? As far as I...

    Canadian Cage Recomendations?

Hi Rat Parents! I am Canadian and I am looking for cage recommendations. I have been researching how to care for pet rats for a while. I am not ready to get rats yet but I am toying with the idea of planning what cage to get. I can't order one online so I am stuck with the few local pet store...
