Whisker's Vet Visit

Whiskers got his (probably first ever) visit with the vet this evening. He was developing more signs of a URI (porph during the day, chirping, etc.) I was worried that if it was something he had from his previous home, it might have gotten bad, but the vet listened to him all over and says it's only a minor URI, no signs of pneumonia or anything serious. He weighs 540 grams - big boy! I'm not surprised, though. He was being fed dog food and seed in his old home. I know the seeds are very high in fat, and the dog food likely was too. He feels to me like he's lost a little bit of weight since being on Extrusion, so I'm not worrying about it. I know guys a lot bigger than him who are totally healthy (CoughcoughRenee'sOscarcoughcough!) xD. He's on three weeks of Baytril to clear it up. I'd have liked to get six weeks but I didn't want to argue it with him, so when I get near the end of the three weeks I'll just call in and get three more weeks like I did with my Oskar. He looked at his sprained toe as well, but it's actually looking much better than it was so I decided not to get anything for it - I'd hate to overload his system with something unnecessary then have it be less effective when he goes need it. It's still a bit read, but I've seen him licking it so I think it's mostly just that he's irritating it. Also checked to make sure he didn't have a penis plug, all clear. I haven't noticed any high-end weakness (other than that he bunny-hops when he runs, but I don't know if that's normal for old guys or not) so I wasn't expecting it.

I mentioned to him that I was still working on introing him to my boys, though, and he suggested I wait until the URI is all cleared up before beginning intros again. Renee has told me before though to take everything he says with a grain of salt, so is that really necessary or should I restart intros again this weekend like I was going to? I'd hate to put intros off for another month if it isn't necessary.

I would not consider 540 grams too big :giggle haha but thats coming from someone who has boys 650 +!

As long as intros are not stressful they should be fine! and your right with taking what he says with a grain of salt :giggle: ..as he told me all 10 of my guys needed teeth trimming :/

I really wish you could meet Dr. D ..he is the best! Dr. Toor is good, but he is more into g pigs!

I gave them a week away from each other with separate out-time, so I'm going to start over on Saturday in the (dry) bathtub. I'll keep an eye on him, and if it seems to be stressing him out a lot, I'll wait a bit.

I was actually expecting him to tell me Whiskers needed his teeth trimmed, I was surprised when he said his teeth were good. Whiskers is a big bruxxer and chewer though and I check everyone's teeth on a regular basis so I knew they were fine. You've heard what a loud chewer he is; if he was having trouble eating or anything, I'd notice pretty quick! xD I can never get over rat teeth, I'm so used to cat and dog teeth that when I see those big yellow teeth, it looks so gross. xD

 

haha! good Im surprised he never told you he needed them done! my guys chew and brux all the time ..teeth are perfect ..but he compares them to guniea pig teeth!
