Our little Iris, who we've yet to introduce properly to you all, is sick with a respiratory infection. I had an appointment to take her to the vet in London on Wednesday, but I didn't want to leave it that long so I got her in with one of our vets here on Friday. They gave baytril and wanted to give doxycycline along with it, but they can't get it in until Wednesday. We tried contacting the local compounding pharmacy, but they don't have the suspension material required and they're not likely to order it in because I only need a small amount and it's expensive. :( She's on the baytril for now, but I really want to get her on the other meds asap. Any thoughts? I don't drive, so it makes it more difficult.

If the drugstore will sell you some Doxycycline capsules (each contains 100mg, I think), you can compound it yourself. I mix mine with 4 ml of Rice Dream or water sweetened with Strawberry Nesquick, and I give .2 ml per pound, twice a day.

It's good for at least a week stored in the fridge.

Ordering doxy online might take over a week for shipping. Have you tried other vet clinics? or ask your vet for the doxy in capsules, they might have it, but not compounded.

We have very few Vet clinics here and none of them have it. The pharmacy does have capsules, but the Vet wants it compounded professionally. Luckily my sister works at the pharmacy so she convinced the person in charge of the orders to order in the suspension stuff to compound it. She said she'll try to have it done this evening and she'll bring it home with her for me. (she lives just down the street from me) :joy: I love my sister. :cuddle:
