First time I did intros, we used vanilla down their backs and it went okay, minimal puffing, they did some pea fishing and Flux peed on Goliath enough that he was almost soaked and needed a bath.

The second and third intros that I tried, I tried without vanilla because some people said that "they'll find out each others scent eventually anyway" and that it was lying and other comments. Both times resulted in injury.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and use the "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" saying here. When they start intros again, I will be doing the swipe of vanilla extract down their back, but what else can I do to give them a better start at an intro.

They are used to each others scent again as I moved Flux into his new cage and his new cage is next to Goliath's so Flux doesn't puff up very bad anymore if I pet Goliath and then pet him in his cage. That first day he was MEGA PUFF. Seriously, I knew I should have named him marshmello. >.>

Anyway, when we get into a new place (send me some good thoughts that we're in a new place and not at his mothers for a month please), we will have a PROPER working tub that I will probably feel safe to do intros in.

My best friend was looking for me and suggested putting a tiny bit of water in the bottom of the tub because apparently a lot of people have suggested it when she googled it. She hasn't had rats for a few years and her boys had to be permanently separated cause she never got a neuter and there's no guarantee that would have worked with them.

Give them both a bath, give them a swipe of vanilla down their back and put them in the tub with a yummy thing they can't resist somewhere in the middle of it with NO hides or play things until at least 2nd intro, right?

I'm planning on getting Flux his neuter and that could really turn things around for them, but I wanna write this info down and keep it in a "My rat care" folder. With a list of all their favorite must-have foods.

When to separate, what should I look for?
-Puffing
-Hissing
-Boxing stance
Anything else?

Ok so you are doing intros with 2 males. Both intact. How old? You've done intros before and it didn't go well so you stopped and now want to start again, is that correct?
They live close to each other now?
I would do a small table top intro. Nothing on the table except for a dish with yummy wet food like baby cereal.
Do not allow them to go sniff each other for the first 3 intros. Don't do the vanilla either, lets try it again without it by not allowing them to go near each other. Each time one goes near to the other, block him with your gloved hand, like making a wall. When the rat turns away, have a super yummy treat to give him. Do this for the first three intros.

Flux will be getting Fixed as soon as we move and then after he heals and if he chills a little, we will be doing intros again after that.

When we rescued Goliath, his owner said they thought he was just over a year because they'd had him that long, but he is already silvering and is a very chill lil rat, very much on the submissive. He'd be about a year and a half now by that estimation.

Flux is dominant, around 7 months old and yes, intact. He's been weird since his brother passed away and we haven't gotten them in together yet.

Yep! Which is why we're looking into neuter before we try intros again. Goliath I believe is too old and he's the submissive of the two boys, we don't have many issues with him. Flux is hormonal, but a lovebug to me.

there's a vet here that apparently does rat neuters for about 60 bucks. I'm not sure how I feel about that because 1. it's really cheap. 2. they didn't ask to see him BEFORE doing a neuter.

We'll see, it was recommended by someone who supposedly runs a rescue here in my area.

Sometimes even the cheap ones are good because they do many and become quite experienced at it. My vet does a full exam the morning of the surgery, so maybe it's the same for that vet.
