Hi,

I noticed that one of my girls has got i dont know what they are...

There has been no fights for 3 weeks now and they live in my bed room so i would hear them. This rash thing has been spreading on soph for around 4 days now. Maggie is clean not a scratch on her.

here are a few pics..

Sorry for bad quality Soph hates siting still

Any ideas....... I dont think it is mite or fungal or anything as maggie would have this to..

thanks for your help guys..... I am worried..

Oh dear. Usually for mites/lice we see smallish scabs, not big gashes like those. Could Maggie be power grooming her sister?
But mites/lice sometimes don't affect all the rats, one rat could be more vulnerable and have more of an infestation than the other.

I would do the typical mite treatment and then watch to see just in case it is...

They look more like bite or scratch wounds to me. They look nasty :? She should start scabbing by tomorrow and they should be healing up nicely within a few days. Keep an eye out for abscesses and swelling though.

Is her sister the dominant one in the cage? If so, i'd agree with Jo and say it could be some insane power grooming gone a bit rough.

thanks guys......

here is the stange thing Sophie is the Boss not maggie so unless maggie has beenn slowly taking over??

I am going to take Soph to the vet as i have No idea what it is, i am going to remove her form the cage for a few days to see how she heals up..

thanks for the help guys.. ill let you no how it goes.

Hi all,

ok the vet said he didn't thoink it was mites but we treated her anyway. She is doing ALOT better. The vet thinks it was fighting or power grooming i am not sure but am happy it is clearing up well.
