I have a single level FN cage for our 4 girls. I have covered it over the Top and Back with a big flannel bed sheet to help keep possible window draft down. We have the cage approx 4 inches from the wall because its near a heater and a window. The top of the cage reaches the in height to the bottom of the window.
We have found the Rat Kids LOVE to climb out to the top of the cage so we built a play ground up there for them, with bridge reaching over to the top of Bearded Dragon Enclosure (custom built big cabinet type enclosure so No worries about rats getting in or dragon getting out) there are shelves on the wall on end and a dresser at the other end...I have put up PCV pipe for additional bridges / ramps to shelfs and the upper bunk of kids bed and tunnels for playing...its a great fun place for them to play up off the floor...I will have to get pics to show it off the rat kids have a blast up there...

Anyway...I have been trying to figure a way for them to get to the window ledge because they want to but its just that little bit too far for them to reach...and I was planning on working on that this weekend so they don't fall off the cage top trying to strecth to window...
Well I was too Late! Little Lucy Smallest Girl some how strecthed to the window! I saw this and went over to get her off she tried to stretch across to get back to me...and fell!!! From Window to Floor! Luckily I think she tried to grab hold of the the blanket I have covering the back of the cage so it slowed her fall down...she seemed fine came right out to me and let me set her back in the cage. I collected the rest of the girls and put them away.
Came back in a while to give them evening veggies / snack...she was still running and playing and fine...
I noticed Altana has pulled some fleece up and was tipping a litter pan over so as I as fixing it Lucy climbed out to the top of the cage...one sec she was in my face next she was gone...I knew she had climbed out so I finshed what I was doing and went to close the cage door so no one else would get out...and as I was closing the door she was up in the corner trying to climb back in! so I was closing the door on her!
she didn't squeek or make any fuss but had to hurt a bit...
This morning she seemed fine I even went home at lunch and she was crazy as usual....should I be concerned? or just wait and see if she seems off?
I think she is ok...but I worry that she might hide any possibly issues...she is still climbing and running around like a little spaz attack...and still silly as usual...
Maybe I am being too paranoid?

Sorry for the long post...just wanted you all to get the picture of the evenings events...
What do you all think?

My guy is consistently sailing off of tables, chairs, bookcases... you name it.

Rats are resilient... more so than they receive credit for.

Keep an eye on Lucy but it sounds like she is just fine. You may want to massage her little body parts to see if anything hurts.

Hope this helps.

I would think she is A-OK. I'm sure we have all done things to hurt our rats but the reality is any rat that has a home with a member of the forum will have the best of the best. Don't worry, their tuff little critters.

If I had a dollar for every time we had a mishap, I'd be a rich woman. One thing though, it sure teaches US to be more careful. lol

I think she'll be fine. Rats have a very fast metabolism, so even if they do get hurt (minor things, not like breaking bones or backs or anything) just give them a week of rest and they should be just fine.
Trust me, Haru has gotten himself in so much trouble... He'll fall from my shelf or dresser onto the floor (which I now keep padded with blankets and such), or even fall off his cage in attempt to get to the window or onto my bed (and that's why I have a beanbag with a pillow on it- so he can jump onto the beanbag instead of going splat on the floor). But he's been perfectly fine throughout.

I've caught one of my boys in the cage door too, wouldn't worry too much about it - only a hurt ego really hehe. He was pretty embarrassed :p
