So I have two female rats both 7-10 months old. Very lively, love to play, never really had any problems with them.

About 2 months ago, I noticed that they pee where they sleep. When it started, it was just slightly damp but now when I go to clean their cage (I clean their cage once a day) their bed is COMPLETELY drenched, their bedding is DRIPPING with urine. I give them paper towels or old cloth as bedding and I just throw it out everyday.

Is this something I should worry about? I just don't understand why they are doing this.

Thanks!

Mine do it too and as long as you keep that area clean, your ratties won't pick up the pee smell.

My sister puts down an extra sheet of fleece where they sleep so that every day she simply removes the soiled fleece and adds a new one.
Some rats are just silly silly silly.

some love to marinate in it. I have seen my girls point their butts out of where they were sleeping and pee.... too lazy to walk over to the litter box! they are meticulous about pooping in the box, but they pee anywhere they want.

Thank goodness I was starting to worry too...I have noticed the same thing...peeing in their sleeping areas...I have taken to changing the bits of flannel I give them to make beds every day now...and their fleece every 2days. Silly little Stinkers.
Speaking of how they pee everywhere and anywhere...
My young ones approx 12-13weeks old, Pee on Everyone! they will run over top of an old girl rat and dribble pee on them...they do it to us too when out playing I am forever wiping pee off me my human kids or other rat kids Altana and Ellesmera (adult rats). I swear they do this for fun...whats up with this?

They are urine marking ... claiming you, etc as theirs.
Rat owners consider being peed on by their rats as a compliment .... no wonder people think we are a bit
strange :laugh4:

Neutered and spayed rats do it less, but still urine mark.

LoL this is so true. My new boys are at my parent's for QT right now, and when I had them out for free time one peed on me and I was like "Thank You"...my mom was like . When I explained she understood a bit, but she was still ick'd out.

Hahaha! We always say "Oh huny I love you too!" I figured it might be marking...the babies do it to me and my youngest daughter the most, and they are forever dribbling across the two older rats.
They just love everyone!
