This morning I woke up to my baby BB laying in the corner by himself...I knew something wasn't right, noticed his breathing was labored and he was making a rattling/clicking noise through his nose.

I just took him to the vet at 9:30, he was prescribed Clavamox 15 ML, 0.15cc orally.

It was so sudden he was just fine last night, he was eating, drinking and wrestling with the other boys and now he's laying flat on his stomach trying to breath and not eating or drinking.

All my babies are getting sick on me.

Edit: I already have him in another cage because I don't want the other boys picking on him like they have. The cage has a nice thick towel to help keep him warm.

What else should I do?

Edit: Just lost him, he started gasping really bad and went.

If he's already having trouble breathing a tank is not ideal for him. Can you put him in a cage with bars? It could be pneumonia, it comes on really fast. If after 4 days the meds aren't helping I would ask the vet for a combo. Good luck with your sweetie.

Sorry I should not have wrote tank, he is in a cage with bars, wasn't paying attention to what I was typing.

I usually have my girls on baytril and clavamox at the same time. If you dont see improvement, perhaps that combo will help.
Clav has always worked for me tho. I love that medicine!

Hope it works for your little guy.

Do you have ensure/baby cereal? Maybe he would like some of that to eat?
To get my girls to eat when they are ill I give them baby cereal, or ensure, or combination of both, or lab blocks dissolved in ensure... These tend to make them eat.

Good luck! Give the little guy lots of scritches if he will permit it :)

I am sorry you lost him! hugs to you!

Do you have other rats? are any new?
No new rats in a long time, I had 16, 8 boys and 8 girls.

Six of the boys were brought over to my house after my ex had to get rid of them but I had them in quarantine for a week before letting them near the others. No one had any problems with sniffling or sneezing. Sly had an abscess but that was cleaned and fixed up quite awhile ago.

A week isnt long enough to tell if they have something. If they were brought there recently, I would watch the others and start medicating as soon as you see a sick sign. Hugs to you and your crew.

I know it wasn't long enough I just didn't want to wait any longer and I was kept up to date about sniffling from the ex before they were brought over. Since there wasn't any issues there and nothing had popped up after a week of having them I just wanted to get them all settled in.

I now regret that choice.

It could of been timing, as in just his time.

Are any other sick?
As far from what I can tell nobody looks or sounds sick. I am on alert and i'm double checking for drafts and things that can make anyone sick or cause someone that is sick to get worse.

I am so sorry. It is such a shock when they get so sick so fast. Whenever I've had a rat develop that awful clicking sound it has been the end. Probably nothing you could have done.

RIP, BB :(:
