Sophie got spayed on April 8th, and was trussed up with internal sutures and metal staples. (And yes, now that I know that metal staples are a no-no, I'll be insisting on a different stitching up method next time). Sophie and Millie thankfully left the staples alone, and they were taken out on 16th.

However, Sophie's incision has healed up rather ... bumpily. I finally worked up the courage to prod the bumps and I was surprised to feel that they were really hard! She's got three small hard lumps - one at the top of the incision and two alongside it. Is this normal post surgery? The bumps wouldn't be from the internal stitches right? Do abscesses get that hard? Could it be scar tissue? When the rescue folks saw her incision, they mentioned that the vet had "gathered" more skin than necessary when he stitched her up. Or do I have another problem on my hands?

Our girls were spayed um... 4ish months ago? and each of them still has a little knot under the skin on their belly where their incisions were. The rescue through whom they were spayed said that sometimes the dissolving stitches can take forever to go away, but I suppose it could also be scar tissue?

Ah that is true too, sometimes dissolvable sutures are a PITA like that (and allergies can happen too). I know the spays I'm referring to didn't have dissolvable sutures and it was definitely scar tissue in my case, so if nothing else I can confirm it is possible.

Can we see a pic of the surgical site now?

I have seen sutures that caused quite the bumps and also scar tissue, so I wouldn't worry yet unless they change and/or grow bigger.

That's looking good and normal.
Really? Yikes, I hope the bumps start decreasing in size soon. In any case, at least they are not getting bigger.

Don't worry she will still be able to wear her bikini.
LOL - when I picked her up from the vet, my second thought was "I didn't know they did Brazilian waxes on ratties."

My first thought was "OMG, she's been unzippered!"
