I just had my boys out to play and one of them peed and it's an extremely weird color!!

Brown/orange/red ??

Anyone know what this could be? I've been feeding them all the same stuff, yesterday I did feed some carrots, other than that they have all been acting the same.

Will upload a pic asap.

Hi Briser,
I've never had this issue, but I know that sometimes overweight or badly-nourished rats will have this problem, though if it did just happen for the first time now and nothing changed, I wouldn't think it's that.

Dark pee is often a sign of dehydration. Pinch the skin on the back of his neck, pull it up a bit, and let go. It should snap back in place quickly- if it doesn't, your rattie is a dehydrated. Try to make sure it's drinking, or mix some yoghurt/applesauce in water and offer it to him, then look at the pee.

Esentially, it could be the carrots. Don't feed them anything weird-colored for a few days and keep trying to check his pee, maybe put some paper towels in the cage.

Hold up until someone else posts a reply, too. And take a deep breath, it most likely isn't anything super serious!

I've had rats with dark pee. It's hard to tell on the towel because it's already orange. If you can have him pee on paper towels might.
