Owen hurt his foot but he may have a bleeding disorder (his sister did and died from it) so I'm very nervous about giving him anything

however I do have some tramadol, I just need to know how much to give him and how to compound it

it's a 50 mg tablet

any one up who knows how to do this?

Rat guide says 1 to 5 mgs per KG, argg, I suck at math....

See this is the problem Althea...you are not dealing with pain, you are dealing with the swelling which needs an anti-inflammatory so tramadol won't work. :(

ok he got a dose of ibuprofen

it must be making a bit of a difference, he's starting to put the foot down sometimes

it's not helping to put him in a one level cage, though, he climbs up the sides! :gaah:

what is wrong with my rats!!?!?!? do they want to give me a heart attack??
I'm just gonna wrap this boy up in bubble wrap

oh, that would make a funny picture, wouldn't it?

That is why i hate cns. My rats rarely climb the sides of a FN.

you know I wondered about that. I think next time I need a cage I will get the FN

this is so nerve wracking

but then my kids LOVE to climb, they will literally try to climb the walls if they cant' find anything to climb on
:panic:

I want to make them big marshmallow mountains out of blankets and the like, to try to keep them safe

My first rats were not this reckless, this has been a learning experience for me. Rats that need to be protected from themselves!
 :gaah:

thanks guys, Owen is doing better!
the swelling went down a tich after the first dose of ibuprofen so I nervously gave him a second dose and it's getting much much better now, and he looks a lot happier.
He's such a happy boy that even with the swollen foot he was running around and didn't look like it bothered him at all, but now that it's gotten better, I can see he must have been effected because he's back to his silly self again

My boys are so awesome! my girls are too, but these two boys are such sweethearts

Hope the swelling has still continued to go down! :)

it has, thankfully! he still favors that foot sometimes though

all of my rats are very mad at me because I took away all the things they usually climb on

I'm going to slowly add them back and put big piles of fabric under them just in case someone loses their balance!

which is probably overkill, since this was most likely a twisting type injury from climbing inside the cage, If he'd been hurt while out playing I would have probably seen it happen.
