Hey guys. Do any of you ever use Vicks Vapor Rub? It's a paste and it clears your sinuses really well. It always gets rid of allergies/breathing issues for me instantly. Is it safe for rats?

I'm sure if I put it on them they would lick it off, and that's not good, but I recently found an alternative while looking at some Do It Yourself's on a website. It mentioned making Vicks Vapor Rub shower tablets at home. You mix water, baking soda, and peppermint or eucalyptus or lavender oil into a paste, let it harden in cubes or whatever shape, and then you throw them in the shower. The heat melts them and they mix into the steam, and supposedly they work great.

Would this be safe for rats, like with the boiling pot of water?
The only issue I could think of is
a) the oils not being safe for rats
or
b) it might be too "strong" and hurt their noses

Eucalyptus is suppose to be really good for clearing sinuses. You could give it a try. If you find it offending to you, then don't do it near the rats. You could probably play around with the recipe and find something mild that you feel will help.
