Woof went in for the sneezing he's been having lately. Mom took him since she had the afternoon free, for something so basic I was okay to let her handle it since I figured we'd do doxy/enro. Vet wanted to do vibramycin shot and repeat in a week. Didn't think additional oral meds were needed at this point since it's mild.

Only rats I've had get vibramycin shots were end stage resp cases, the shot was a last resort when they would not take meds mixed in anything. I'm very paranoid about just a shot with no additional meds, very very very paranoid. Dr. H (different vet, he was all that was available) said a couple of weeks ago that he's been having very good results with the injection. Anyone have any experiences to share? We've been through so much with Wolfie and his neuter/kidney scare, I'm not ready for him to go through a big mess because the vet wanted to try something out of the norm.

A one time doxy shot? Mmm, can't see how that's suppose to help much.
Its repeated next week, and the next. This vet used to start with oral combo doxy/enro, but he said he's seen good success lately with the once weekly doxy shot when treatment is started early enough. I'll give it a go, but if there's no improvement or if he worsens, ill demand oral meds. I have marbofloxacin here, wondering if I should give that since its related to enro.

Injectable Doxy can last for two weeks, it should be the equivalent to giving only Doxy by mouth. You'll just have to see if you get results.

Oh wow. That makes it much easier a one shot a week. My vet also told me she's seen studies and other reports claiming doxy has a pretty good med if started early.

That's been my understanding w the vet, that it stays in the system a week at least. As said, in the past this has just been a resort when picky rats nearing the end refused meds, we lost them all but again, they were already close to death. Wolf is mild mild mild. I still feel paranoid, but I am curious to see how effective it is in treating a mild case.

My boy Disashi was on it the last couple months of his life, as well as oral enro. He would have declined either way, but he hated oral doxy no matter what. His decline with the shot + oral enro was about the same as a rat on both meds orally, now that I think about it.

Woof sneezed waking up today, but has been quiet since. He still has the "what the heck happened to me yesterday?" Look on his face. Poor boy hates the vet.
