We take our rats and other animals to the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center (OPVMC). There's a couple dozen vets who work there, but ours usually see Dr. Reiler or Dr. Minier. Both of them are experienced with small/exotic pets, and both are always willing to take time to discuss all options thoroughly. I believe there is a third vet who joined the center a year or two ago who is also an exotics specialist. The vet techs whom we have seen have also been familiar with handling rats and other small animals. They've never 'spooked' our animals or stressed them in any way.
The Center has a vet on site 24/7 to deal with emergencies, although they will not necessarily be small animal experts. We have had to make use of this fact several times, unfortunately...
Vets at the Center are also very willing to refer patients to other veterinary facilities, if they feel it is necessary.
In our experience, the staff and the vets are very caring and concerned for the welfare of the patients. We highly recommend the OPVMC to anyone who lives in the south Buffalo area (technically it is in Orchard Park).
For what it is worth, not long after we started taking our animals here, they were able to afford a much larger building.
