Hi all,
I have a female rat that I rescued a couple months ago from a bad situation. I originally had 4 females and 1 male that I rescued. The male and one of the females had to be put down. The female form a giant mammary tumor and the male because he had severe URI and medicating him was so stressful that he would almost die each time.
I quarantined them in my room for about 5 weeks, maybe a little more. They are all sisters allegedly and not once did they squabble which I found pleasant but unusual. After they were all healthy, I moved them into the room I keep my girls in. I keep my girls and boys in separate rooms for behavior and health reasons. There is no way, no how that any boys and girls have interacted in since I got them.
I went to check on these very shy girls and I picked up the bravest one. As I was snuggling her and trying to get her used to being handled, I found a drop of blood on my hand. I looked her over and found that it is coming from her vagina. I can't see any bite marks, there is no swelling, and no pus. I checked the cage and there's not blood in there. I can only think that her straining when I pick her up is pushing it out but when she is relaxed and walking around, it doesn't come out. Her abdomen is not swollen and she is acting normal. Not painful or listless at all. It's not just that one drop either. I held a napkin to her hoohoo and when I pulled it away there was enough blood on it to account for at the very least 5-7 big drops. It is definitely blood. I'm not sure what it is or what I can do. The vets are closed till tomorrow and the emergency clinic here has made it clear to me on multiple occasions that they wont see rats :/
