I must be very dark chocolate and the theobromine in it will only open the lungs temporarily. If he will take any during a respiratory attack, I wouldn't worry about how much.
He took some of the chocolate and is doing okay(temp) but I will be calling the vet for more baytril/doxy. What other things should I be feeding him to keep his strength up?
How often can I give Carter the enhaler? I am going to the vet at 4:00 today but he really isn't doing well. I am glad he had some weight on him before because the last few days he hasn't eaten anything. It is hard for him to drink water as he is breathing quite heavy. What are some of the things that I should be discussing with the vet?
Is Carter on meds now? If he is then maybe ask for a combo of meds, Baytril and Zithro or Doxy. I prefer Baytril and Zithro when they're really bad. As for the inhaler I was doing every 4 hours but I knew it was the end for my rat. Good luck with your sweetie.
I "cup" my hand over his head and spray. Some put the rat in a small box to spray him and I know some use a plastic bag attached to the inhaler to cover the rat's nose.
Well we are back from the vet with new meds and a funny but workable inhaler to give to him. It seems to be helping a bit. The vet had to order Doxy and should be here tomorrow. He is also on Baytril. In the mean time I have to get him back eating. Any suggestions?
Ensure mixed with baby cereal is a good way to tempt them to eat...get vanilla or strawberry, as those are the ones most liked by most rats...then there's the weird ones who like the other flavours LOL
