I don't know if I'm overreacting, cuz I'm rather inexperienced, but Cecilia was very congested today, and around 9pm she started gasping for air and freaking out. There was drool and foam and all that stuff. I went to steam her in the washroom, and most of my rats clear up after that. And yes, the situation has improved breathing wise, but all of her heartbeat has gotten worse, and isn't showing any signs of getting better. She wont drink anything or eat anything (even strawberry ensure, and that's her one true love!).

I have two videos that show how her heartbeat and breathing is making her body convulse. Has anyone seen anything like this, and is it life threatening?

Nevermind...

Just lost her. She wasn't even a year old. That happened so fast. It's not fair. She was perfectly fine and active a few hours ago. I honestly can't believe it... I don't even know how the others are going to react to this... they don't even know yet.

Could she have choked?

She looks like her breathing is labored,

Pain can make them breath harder too.

I wish i was more help! That has to be super scary....

I am so sorry, it could of been her heart too,

I am so sorry, it could of been her heart too,

It was choking... she was making horrible noises, so I went over to see her, and took her out of the cage to see what I could do to help, but she died literally within 30 seconds. And after I noticed alot of gooey stuff coming out of her mouth.

I was expected her to make it through the night and we were going to the vet first thing in the morning (usually the doctor will see us first thing in the morning before any other patients get there if its super urgent). :(

I have so many regrets regarding the entire situation, so many things I wish I did differently. It really isn't fair. She was the sweetest, most well tempered rat I'd ever met. And while I love all my rats, and they all like me to some extent, I was really, really loved by this one. And its so hard losing her, especially 2 years earlier than I expected to.

I am sorry, it is hard, but you cannot do anything when they choke. Just really watch what they eat, i stick with crunchy stuff, but even then they can choke on them.

I am really sorry you had to go through this, it is harder when they are younger and such sweet ratties.

I'm really sorry for your loss. She looks like she was having trouble because her lungs had fluid in them. It's hard to tell, my computer keeps skipping during the video. Pneumonia can come on scary fast and it difficult to overcome when it's that severe.

I agree that was a sick rat not a choking rat, with the breathing, the open mouthed gasping, and the little panicked hops. Pneumonia is horribly fast. RIP sweet thing :(
