Realistically, it all started a couple of weeks ago. Mister was no longer cleaning himself and he would marinate in his pee. I started to clean his plug and his bottom everyday. Two days ago, I noticed he wasn't that interested in eating. Last night, he had a very slight head tilt. Mister has been on baytril for a long time, maintenance dose. But this morning, I found Mister with severe head tilt and rolling. He has very little mobility of his left side. I increased his baytril in case it's an ear infection. He still is not all that interested in eating, he's having a hard to time even finding the food right under his nose. He'll eat if we finger feed it to him.
I'm afraid his time might have come. He's about 37 months old. And I suspect he may have PT. My poor sweet Mister. :(

Oooh Mister.

I guess realistically we should be absolutely ecstatic that he lasted this long, we thought he only had a month or 2 ages ago. Sadly we are very very greedy and don't want to let go of our wonderful ratfriends.

Here's hoping its a temporary setback, but if its not I know Jo will know when to help him out.

Damn, I cannot cry at the new job.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear about Mister :( I hope he improves, he's such a special manrat. Keeping him in my thoughts, he's already reached such a great age with you.

:balloons3:

Those are Feel Better balloons, just to clarify. : x Like many already said, what a good long life!

Oh, poor Mister. :( It so heartbreaking to hear. Try to be brave, little man!

Perhaps you could try adding doxycycline for the double punch, Jo? My vet told me doxy penetrates into brain tissues better than other abs. It does sound like PT but it couldn't hurt to try....

Poor Mr. Mister...

Shelagh's right... we really should be focusing on the fact that he's had a great run. I know that if anyone can find anything to make him feel better, you can.

Thanks guys!
Lise, that's a good idea, I didn't know that doxy does that. I'll see if I can get some.

An update, he's doing better. He ate pablum (baby cereal) and stays real close to Bijou, he's using her as a pillow so he stops rolling.

Sounds like me when I'm drunk as drunk can get (doesn't happen too often nowadays)... I need to "plant" myself on someone to stop spinning.

Too much info. You guys didn't need to hear that.

Oh Jo. I know it's going to come to them all (and us too one day) but it's just harder to hear about some we hold closer to our hearts.
I send Love & Kisses to Mister & Bijou too. And deepest hopes for Mister's comfort.

It's beautiful to hear he is using Bijou as a pillow, that is so descriptive of their special love.

I swear there are new icons everyday

Jo,
If there is a way to make Mister well you will find it. If it is his time to go you will recognize it and be realistic. I am glad he is eating and looking better. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Ann

So sorry to hear about dear Mister having PT symptoms. Of course it's been amazing that he stayed healthy so long, but he's such a special guy. I have loved seeing photos of him and Bijou snuggled together.

Scritches and banana mash to him. And his lovely wife will be just as curative as (and more soothing than!) the medication.

I'll be thinking of him, hoping that he has some good times left now that he is feeling better.
