Tyr is my last of the screaming smeezies, or the Chilly Rats from the BYB in Ombra. These 3 rats were part of a pretty significant rescue effort.

Asheka braved the cold and the BYB themselves to get these 3 survivors of living outdoors and escapees from the cold cage being eaten by dogs. Initially we thought there was only 3 females, one heavily pregnant, then Asheka discovered there was a male and 2 females with the one girl looking like she was going into labour. The rescue team really went into action that night. StaceyM met up with Asheka, and drove them part way to CCH rescue in Guelph and we discovered along the way that there was 2 smeezey boys and 1 pregnant PEW (Glinda ended up with Jenny after her babies were adopted out). The boys ended up coming to me.

Sadly Tyr has always been a very timid, nervous, OMG don't TOUCH me type of rat. He would cry when another rat bumped him, or I touched him...sooo sad. He's 24 months old now and he is only a little better than he used to be. He was pretty devastated when we lost his brother so suddenly to PT and other issues, and then I had to take Hermes from him as he was too sick, and Tyr was a bit rough with the frail little guy.

5-6 months ago Tyr developed what seemed like a mammary tumour on his side, which I left as it was growing very slowly and also he was an on/off URI guy, In the last month its started growing like an insane thing, and is now huge. I decided that even though he's 2 years old, and Arista is supposed to be next in line for tumour removals (hers is growing slowly) I am going to have that thing removed from him and have booked him for Sept. 7th.

I sent pics of him to my vet so they could see what they were up against.

this was May 12th and it mostly stayed this size

Wow, that is quite a bit of growth lately. I hope he makes it through the surgery OK. I'm sure he will feel much better without having to lug that thing around!

That's where Sprockets tumor is, and his is that size plus about half more of a tumor added onto it. I'll have to have him pts soon because of it. Wishing your boy luck <3
