My mother and brother were visiting early yesterday afternoon (lovely visit btw) and I walked in and saw a Chilly boy just lying on his belly in the open on the middle shelf...well that's unlike them so I went to see what was up. Then I saw the blood. I pulled him out and saw all the blood oozing from his left shoulder. Tyr is the really spooky smaller brother of the 2, and he was limp and lethargic. I got a towel and started putting pressure on the wound to stop it bleeding. Then I handed him to my brother to do the same while I checked everyone else in the cage. Not a mark on anyone...not a drop of blood on any of them. So poor Tyr must've zigged when he should've zagged and got sliced by sharp ratty teeth.
The blood kept oozing from his shoulder as he lay all wrapped up and me stroking his head talking to him.

So I ended up wrapping him up for even more constant pressure. This worked well even if I ruined my only tensor bandage...haha.

I kept him quietly on me for a couple of hours after that even though the bleeding had stopped I was going to use the time to bond with him. He really is very sweet, when he's not utterly terrified of you.

This morning I pulled him out and he was all cleaned up. Found the wound and this is the exact size of it

rats heal at such an insane rate...I remember years ago intro'ing Fonzi (russian blue dumbo rex) and Merrick (black self standard ear rex) and Fonzi slashing Merrick's throat. You could see the veins, trachea, etc.....the next morning it was completely shut.

Any of us would have bled to death...

Between Moses and Tyr, I think we can all go home for the rest of the week and recover from our heart attacks. :sad3:

I will ask the guy upstairs to ease up on the Canadian Rat Grappling program and leave the little guys in peace.:stickpoke:

It's just awful when the little ones get hurt. :tearful:

I think the moment we see blood in the cage we all die a little inside. Rats can't lose too much blood.
So glad that Tyr is feeling better.
